Chapter 6 : Mine Only Mine

1147 Words
The morning after the success party felt different. The air in the penthouse was quiet. No guests. No clinking glasses. Just the smell of coffee and the sound of Lahore waking up 42 floors below. Inaya was in the kitchen, barefoot, hair tied in a messy bun. She was wearing one of Rayan’s white shirts and leggings. Her red dress from last night was hanging on the back of a chair, still wrapped in dry-cleaning plastic. She was flipping pancakes when she felt arms slide around her waist from behind. "Morning, Mrs. Khan," Rayan murmured into her hair. His voice was rough from sleep. He was in grey sweatpants and nothing else. His chest was warm against her back. "Morning," Inaya smiled, leaning back into him. "CEO ko pancakes pasand hain?" "Only if my wife makes them," Rayan kissed her temple. "Last night was perfect." "It was," Inaya agreed. Her cheeks were still pink remembering how he’d called her his wife in front of everyone. Rayan took the spatula from her hand and turned her around. "Today no work talk. Today, you and me." Inaya laughed. "We have the AURA launch meeting at 10." "We’ll be 5 minutes late," Rayan grinned, and kissed her. A slow, lazy kiss that tasted like coffee and promises. --- #### *Kamalaya Group - 10:07 AM* They walked in together. 7 minutes late. The entire boardroom stood up. Rayan didn’t apologize. He just pulled out Inaya’s chair first, then sat beside her. "Let’s begin," he said. The presentation went well. Numbers. Timelines. Media strategy. But Rayan’s focus kept slipping. Because Adil Rehman was sitting across the table again. "Mr. Khan," Adil said, smiling too wide. "I was thinking. For the AURA launch event, maybe Mrs. Khan should do the keynote? She has such... presence. That red dress was talked about all over LinkedIn." The room went silent. Rayan’s pen stopped moving. Inaya felt it. The shift in the air. She answered politely, "Thank you, Mr. Rehman. But the keynote will be done by our CMO." "Oh, but the CMO doesn’t have your charm," Adil pressed. "Come on, Rayan. Let your wife shine." Rayan looked up. Slowly. His eyes were calm. Too calm. "Adil," Rayan said. "My wife doesn’t need to 'shine' for other men to notice her. She shines for me. That’s enough." Adil’s smile dropped. "The meeting is about AURA," Rayan continued, voice like steel wrapped in silk. "Not my wife’s wardrobe. Stick to the agenda. Or leave." Nobody breathed. Adil cleared his throat. "Right. Of course. My apologies." The rest of the meeting was 30 minutes of pure business. The second Adil walked out, Rayan stood up. "Meeting over," he said to everyone else. Then he took Inaya’s hand. "Come with me." --- #### *Rayan’s Office - 42nd Floor* The door closed with a soft click. Rayan didn’t let go of her hand. He pulled her to the floor-to-ceiling window. Lahore spread out below them. For a minute, he didn’t speak. Inaya waited. Then she felt his arms come around her from behind. Tight. Possessive. "Did you like it?" he asked quietly. "When he was looking at you?" Inaya turned in his arms. "Rayan, I didn’t even—" "I know," he cut her off. He cupped her face. His thumbs brushed her cheeks. "I know you didn’t do anything. That’s not the point." "Then what is?" Inaya whispered. Rayan exhaled. "The point is... I hated it. I hated that he was talking about your dress. I hated that he was saying your name. I hated that for 2 seconds, you weren’t just mine." Inaya’s heart squeezed. "I am yours." "Say it," Rayan demanded, but his voice was soft. Vulnerable. "I’m yours," Inaya said. "Only yours. Mrs. Rayan Khan." Rayan closed his eyes like the words hurt and healed him at the same time. Then he kissed her. It wasn’t soft. It wasn’t lazy like this morning. It was claiming. Desperate. Like he needed to stamp it on her skin so the whole world could see. One hand in her hair. The other on her waist, pulling her flush against him. When he finally pulled back, they were both breathing hard. "Mine," Rayan whispered against her lips. "Only mine." "Only yours," Inaya repeated, smiling through tears she didn’t know were there. Rayan rested his forehead on hers. "I’m sorry. I’m being crazy." "You’re being in love," Inaya corrected, and kissed his jaw. "And I don’t mind." Rayan chuckled and hugged her tighter. "You’re going to ruin me, Inaya." "You already ruined me first," she teased. --- #### *Later - Car Ride Home* Traffic was bad. Rayan was driving himself. No driver today. Inaya was looking out the window when Rayan suddenly pulled the car over. To the side of the road. "Rayan? What—" He unbuckled his seatbelt and leaned over. Unbuckled hers too. Then he pulled her across the console and into his lap. "Rayan! We’re on the road!" Inaya squeaked, but she was laughing. "I don’t care," Rayan said, and buried his face in her neck. "I just needed to hold you. Without boardrooms. Without Adil. Without anyone." Inaya wrapped her arms around him. "You’re getting obsessed." "With my wife? Yes," Rayan mumbled into her skin. "Problem?" "No problem," Inaya whispered, and ran her fingers through his hair. They sat like that for 5 minutes. Horns blaring around them. And they didn’t care. --- #### *Night - Penthouse* Dinner was takeout. They ate on the floor, backs against the couch. Rayan was telling her about his first deal. How he’d messed up and lost $5 million. Inaya was listening, head on his shoulder. "You know what the worst part was?" Rayan said. "I had no one to come home to. No one who cared if I won or lost." He turned to look at her. "Now I do. I come home to you. And suddenly winning doesn’t feel as good as seeing you in my shirt." Inaya’s eyes filled. "Rayan..." He set his plate down and pulled her into his lap again. "I mean it. You changed everything. This company. Me." He took her hand and kissed each knuckle. "I don’t want to share you. Not your time, not your smile, not your future. I want it all. With you." Inaya nodded, crying and laughing at the same time. "You can have it all." "Promise?" Rayan whispered. "Promise," Inaya said. "Mine. Only mine too." Rayan smiled. That rare, real, boyish smile. He kissed her. Soft this time. Sweet. "Let’s go to bed, Mrs. Khan," he murmured. Inaya nodded. "Okay, Mr. Khan." He picked her up. Carried her to the bedroom. The city lights dimmed behind them. And for the first time in a long time, Rayan Khan wasn’t thinking about deals or enemies or the next billion. He was just thinking about her. His. Only his. ---
