“Why are you the one interviewing me?” Sapphire's face turned pale. This was what she had come for, but she hadn't expected him to be the one interviewing her. She had assumed someone else would handle it.
“This is my clan, and I decide whatever happens here. So, if I choose to interview you, just answer my damn questions,” Lucifer replied coldly, his eyes fixed on her trembling arms.
For thirty-five minutes, Sapphire answered question after question, her legs trembling with fear.
“We are done here.”
Lucifer stood up and reached for the button on the wall with a bell inscription. He pressed it, and in less than two minutes, a beautiful lady dressed in a black body-hugging gown entered the room. Her gaze remained fixed on the floor as she patiently waited for an order.
“Take her to her room and lecture her on the rules and regulations governing the clan,” he ordered before walking out of the room.
Sapphire stared at his retreating figure with disgust as he left her presence.
“Follow me, ma’am.”
The lady gestured for her to follow, and Sapphire did. As they walked down the hallway, her eyes wandered over every inch of the building. To her, it was truly a sight to behold.
"My name is Vicki." The gorgeous lady interrupted her thoughts. "You must address me as Miss Vicki." Sapphire's brow arched in amusement. "Do I have to?" She asked almost letting her laughter out. "If you want your head intact yes." Vicki replied, maintaining an expressionless face.
"Now there are three rules you mustn't disobey."
"Only three?"
"Well three you need to worry about."
Sapphire was convinced she wasn't in a playhouse, she straightened up.
"One, never enter Lucifer's private quarters. Two, never disrespect Master's girl, that will be the end of you."
"Whoa!" Sapphire gasped in mockery. "Lucifer has someone that calls his ass to order!"
"You just disobeyed the third and most important rule newbie." Sapphire stood confused, wondering where she'd gone wrong.
"Never address Master by his name!"
"Ooh!"
"Sorry."
They walked in silence until they got to her supposed room. The door to her room was made of expensive wood. Sapphire stepped into the room and looked around in awe. The spacious room was decorated in dark shades, with a large four-poster bed covered in black silk sheets. A massive wardrobe stood against the wall, while a tall window overlooked the quiet grounds. Everything was elegant, yet strangely unsettling. As she wanted to sit down, strange noises caught her attention, first it was shallow, then louder. Voices of people prepared for war, bangs of gunshot and slashes of swords were heard from outside the room.
"Luca and his men are here! the battle has begun." Vicki said hurriedly walking out of the room.
"I'm coming with you." Sapphire halted her. For one second her brain paused, She wished she could rewind the time so she won't spit that trash. She came here for revenge, Lucifer dying in the middle of this havoc will give her less stress. She regretted not thinking twice before talking.
"You need to stay here, you ain't strong enough for this."
"I grew up on the streets, I can defend myself." Sapphire argued, praying that Vicki would be a little bit stubborn. Then an idea struck her mind. There would be a lot of brainwashed guys willing to put their lives on the line so Lucifer could live, she might use the opportunity to end things herself.
"If you insist, come with me, and do not leave my sight!"
They ran down the secret passage into the ammunition room. Vicki brought out a white card and slid it into an opening in the massive iron door, it opened and revealed a huge shelf stuffed with all manner of weapons. Sapphire stood still, her eyes wide open and her mouth slightly ajar.
"Stop staring and get a defense tool newbie!" Vicki yelled, hastily scanning some guns to determine which is best for her.
"Where the hell did you guys get all of these?" Sapphire asked in deep curiosity. "Rule number four newbie! don't ask irrelevant questions, welcome to the clan!.
Sapphire looked around and sighted a baton nearby, she picked it up and waited patiently for Vicki to finish. The moment she was done, they ran into battle, each with a different motive. Vicki to save her clan and her Master, Sapphire to end the bastard.
The moment they stepped outside, Sapphire froze.
Chaos had swallowed the entire compound. Men dressed in black rushed across the courtyard, some charging toward the intruders while others hurried to defend the main building. The once quiet grounds had transformed into a battlefield, filled with shouting, running footsteps, the sharp clash of weapons, and the deafening sound of gunfire.
Bang! Bang!
Sapphire flinched as two bullets struck the stone wall beside her.
“Stay close!” Vicki yelled.
Sapphire tightened her grip around the baton and followed her.
Luca's men had already breached the outer gates. They poured into the compound from every direction, forcing Lucifer's men to divide themselves between defending the entrance and protecting the inner buildings.
A man rushed toward them.
Vicki immediately stepped in front of Sapphire.
The attacker swung his weapon, but Vicki dodged and struck him hard enough to send him stumbling backward.
“Run!” she ordered.
Sapphire didn't need to be told twice.
They sprinted across the courtyard as more men rushed past them. Some were fighting hand-to-hand, while others kept their distance, firing toward the opposing side.
The air was thick with smoke and dust.
Sapphire's heart hammered against her ribs.
This wasn't what she had imagined.
She had expected revenge to be quiet. Calculated.
Not this.
Another explosion sounded from somewhere near the entrance, making the ground tremble beneath her feet.
Sapphire stumbled.
Vicki grabbed her arm before she could fall.
“Are you hurt?”
“No.”
“Then move!”
They continued forward.
Sapphire glanced around, searching desperately through the chaos.
Where was Lucifer?
Her eyes moved from one fighter to another until she finally spotted a familiar figure standing near the main staircase.
Lucifer.
He wasn't hiding.
He stood in the middle of the chaos, surrounded by several of his men, giving orders with the same cold authority he had shown her earlier.
For a moment, Sapphire forgot about everything else.
Her fingers tightened around the baton.
This is my chance.
If she could get close enough...
“Sapphire!”
Vicki's voice snapped her back to reality.
A man was charging toward them.
Sapphire raised her baton instinctively.
The battle around her seemed to disappear for a split second.
Then she struck.
The man staggered, giving Vicki enough time to move between them and force him back.
“Stay behind me!”
Sapphire nodded, but her eyes returned to Lucifer.
He was still there.
Still alive.
Still completely unaware that the woman standing among his people had come to destroy him.
And for the first time since entering the clan, Sapphire smiled.
Tonight, Lucifer dies.
But before she could take another step, a voice thundered across the battlefield.
“PROTECT THE MASTER!”
Every man around Lucifer immediately turned toward him.
Sapphire's smile disappeared.
Something had changed.
And judging by the sudden movement of Luca's men toward Lucifer's position, the real battle was only beginning.
Luca's men charged towards Lucifer, their guns pointed at the men that surrounded him, bullets flew in the air. Bodies slumping onto the cold floor. For once, even Lucifer realized he was no longer in control of the situation. He retreated to the passage and hid himself in a safe corner with his gun, waiting for his first victim.
Sapphire still stood outside, watching as Vicki fired her gun, bringing all Luca's men down. As she wanted to leave, she spotted Luca, coming with rage to where Lucifer was hiding, she immediately dragged sapphire into a safe hiding spot. Luca wasn't someone to mess with, he'll kill you on sight.
"Come out fool!" Luca thundered.
"You are in possession of that freaking documents, surrender them now and have your peace! or else, you won't live to see tomorrow!" Luca walked slowly to Lucifer's hiding spot as Sapphire watched, something kept pushing her to go and do something. Well that was what she wanted, that was really strange. As Luca was very close to Lucifer's spot, she sprung out of her place and rushed to Luca who has pulled the trigger and the bullet hit Lucifer in the same area he had his last injury and he fell helplessly on the floor. Sapphire hit on his head and he fell unconscious.
Sapphire stared at Lucifer's motionless body.
For a few seconds, she couldn't move.
The sound of gunfire continued around them, but it seemed distant now. Her eyes remained fixed on the dark stain spreading across his shirt.
He's bleeding.
She swallowed hard.
This wasn't supposed to happen.
She had wanted to destroy him, yes, but she hadn't planned for him to die before she could make him suffer.
“Lucifer!”
She rushed toward him and dropped to her knees.
His eyes were closed, and his breathing was shallow.
“Damn it.”
Sapphire looked around frantically.
The hallway was almost empty now. Vicki was still somewhere outside, fighting Luca's men.
She couldn't leave him here.
Not like this.
She grabbed the fabric of his shirt and carefully moved it aside, revealing the injury.
Her eyes widened.
The bullet had struck exactly on his older wound.
“You've got to be kidding me.”
She pressed a piece of clean cloth against the wound to slow the bleeding.
Lucifer groaned.
Sapphire froze.
His fingers twitched.
“Lucifer?”
No response.
She pressed the cloth more firmly against the injury.
“Don't you dare die.”
The words escaped before she could stop them.
She immediately frowned at herself.
“I'm not saving you because I care,” she muttered. “I'm saving you because I have unfinished business with you.”
She searched the nearby room until she found a small medical kit.
Sapphire hurried back and opened it with trembling fingers.
Her hands weren't steady.
She had treated injuries before, but never under circumstances like this.
She cleaned around the wound as carefully as she could, then wrapped a bandage firmly around his torso to control the bleeding.
Lucifer suddenly grabbed her wrist.
Sapphire gasped.
His eyes opened.
Cold.
Furious.
Confused.
“What... are you doing?”
Sapphire stared at him.
“Saving your life, apparently.”
His grip weakened.
“Why?”
She pulled her hand free and glared at him.
“Don't flatter yourself.”
Lucifer tried to sit up, but immediately winced.
“Stay down,” Sapphire ordered.
His eyes narrowed.
“You're giving me orders?”
“Yes.”
For the first time, something resembling amusement flickered across his exhausted face.
“You're either brave...”
He paused.
“...or incredibly stupid.”
Sapphire rolled her eyes.
“Probably both.”
She stood and looked toward the doorway.
The battle outside was slowly becoming quieter.
But she knew the danger wasn't over.
And neither was her plan.
She looked back at Lucifer.
He was watching her carefully now.
Neither of them knew it yet, but the moment she decided to save him had changed everything.
