I didn’t sleep.
Not even a blink. Not even that half-dream state where the body lies still but the mind lets go.
My mind wouldn’t let go. It just kept replaying everything,every breath, every look, every syllable, every lie,on an endless loop with no stop button. And the worst part? I couldn’t even tell whose voice was louder: Adrian’s promises, or Leo’s warnings. Or maybe it was mine, screaming from some buried place no one could hear anymore.
By the time the first sliver of light cut through the blackout curtains, I felt less like a woman and more like a glitch in the system. A short circuit. Something unfinished and dangerous, flickering between survival and surrender.
I dragged myself into the bathroom and turned on the light.
Big mistake.
