The village was a stark contrast to the bustling city they had left behind. Nestled between towering mountains and dense forests, it felt frozen in time. Aria and Kieran stood at the edge of the tree line, their breaths visible in the crisp morning air. “This is it,” Kieran said, glancing at the old map. “The shrine should be somewhere in the forest.” Aria clutched her scarf tighter. “You’re sure we’ll find it?” Kieran nodded, though uncertainty flickered in his eyes. “The records said the shrine was hidden to protect its secrets. But we have to try.” The forest was eerily silent, the towering trees blocking out most of the sunlight. Aria followed Kieran closely, her boots crunching on the frost-covered ground. With each step, a sense of unease grew within her. “Do you feel that?” she asked quietly. Kieran stopped. “Feel what?” “Like we’re being... watched.” Before he could respond, a gust of wind swept through the trees, carrying with it the faint sound of a woman’s laughter. Aria froze. “Did you hear that?” Kieran nodded, his jaw tight. “We’re close. Whatever’s out here—it knows we’ve come.” They pressed on, unaware of the shadows moving silently among the trees. .
