Part five: Her incongruous reaction

1547 Words
The worse thing that could ever happen to a wolf is to be rejected by its mate. The pain alone could crush your soul and make you feel like your heart is being retched into pieces. No one has ever been able to stand the pain of rejection without breaking down in tears. No one except... Fiona. The words that came spewing from Trace's mouth were like poisoned arrows designed to maim one's soul but years of being hurt have made Fiona build a wall so tall that the it makes Berlin wall look like a joke. The words bounced like tennis balls against her protective shield and fell to her feet like dust. The words were ones Fiona expected and she girded herself for them. If she was leaving in one of her dreams this day would have gone a lot more different but she wasn't and she wasn't the kind of girl to live in bubbles. She had known her reality ever since the last doctor told her parents the hard-core truth about her blindness. They had thought her away in her room sleeping but Fiona had sneaked downstairs when she got the wind that the doctor was in the pack house. She had hidden behind the door and listened to the conversation that went on on the other side. Her blindness meant that her other senses had to develop more to compensate for the weakness left by her lack of sight. Among the wolves, she has the best set of hearing abilities and could pick up sounds further than that of an elephant, not that anyone in the pack knows this. Her blindness made others blind to her other potential she is automatically considered weak and helpless, and even her friends and family are not left out in this prejudice. Despite knowing that there was unlikely hood of her ever finding a mate, Fiona had nursed a spark of hope in her heart that maybe tonight will be different. That tonight, her blindness could be over looked for the woman underneath. That hope has been cruelly crushed by the one person she had wished for in her whole life to love her but for a reason she can't fathom have chosen to hate her and treat her like she is a plague. Though her heart was crumbling under his cruelty she held herself together. She wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of seeing her break. Never again. In as much as Trace's words didn't pierce out any emotions from their target that doesn't mean that others were left unscathed. Everyone else in the room had a different reaction to his words. Stark and Ciara gasped in anger. They had expected Trace to reject their friend but hadn't expected him to do with so much cruelty. They both looked ready to kill someone. That someone being the cocky bastard that stood a few feet away from them gloating as if he just won some price. " I am going to kill him, " Stark growled deeply, his chest vibrating from the weight of his fury. Ciara was a few seconds behind him, already planning how to murder the bastard in so many different ways. She wasn't a violent person but for this, she was willing to overcome her terrible fear of blood and break the bastard's nose. " Don't, he isn't worth it. " Fiona's voice was low and dull. They sounded resigned with a lack of spirit in them. It wasn't their loudness that made her friends stop in their tracks but rather the resignation in them. It felt like their friend has given up on everything. Like she has accepted that she wasn't worthy of being loved or having a mate like everyone else. Stark and Ciara didn't know how to react to this low spirit from their friend so they could only gape at her with a helpless look in their eyes. Where Trace's words caused an uproar of rage in Fiona's friends it was the opposite for his friends. It was like he was the King of comedy with the amount of laughter his words aroused in his three friends. Aria was having the most fun with this. As always her laughter rang out louder dragging attention to herself. She scoffed with a little envious loathing, evil chuckle. The moon goddess must be out of her mind paring this trash with someone as amazing as Trace, she glared at Fiona like it was her fault for getting paired up with Trace. It must be eating her up inside knowing she will never be good enough, she looked towards Fiona almost salivating at the tears of pain she could imagine draining down her eyes. Her mocking laughter quickly dried up like an oasis in the desert when she saw the proud and indifferent look on Fiona's face. " Are you kidding me?! " The happy look on her face disintegrated with the speed of light to be replaced with a dark frown that caused two ugly lines to appear on her forehead. Even in the face of rejection, she manages to hold her head up and look indifferent like she is somehow better than us. " Urg!!! " Aria screamed in her mind. She was greatly irritated. It always sets a match to her ire seeing the superior look on Fiona's face. Even with her blindness, the girl manages to always appear elegant and well composed. Nothing seems to ruffle her feathers. Even their bully always seems to fall flat with her and make them come off as immature and lame that the person they are trying to humiliate. Not that it has ever stopped them. Growing up messing with the blind princess has always been fun to them until the girl went and grew some spine. " Damn it! I hate her! " Aria had to tightly restrain herself from stomping her feet down like a kid. Her other friends weren't faring better. What is the use of humiliation when the person you are trying to humiliate doesn't look humiliated? The whole thing quickly lost its flare and they stood glaring at the princess. " Blind princess my foot, more like a cold ass b***h! " Xander growled glaring at Fiona. He wondered if the princess had any feelings at all or if she was just an empty shell. He will go with the latter. The crowd surrounding the two groups had a different reaction from them. They were greatly shocked at what happened not that they could blame the young man. No one wishes to be saddled with such a burden for a mate, and they couldn't help pitying the Wolf King. Not having an heir, with a blind daughter puts his reign at risk of being challenged. Soon the rejection of the wolf's princess spread through the party like wildfire with each person adding their brand of gas to the flame to make it burn brighter. By the time the story got to Wolf King and Queen, it was twisted in so many knots that it sounded uglier than how it was delivered. Even though no amount of words could pretty up a rejection from one's mate. Axel, the King's second saw the look that flashed across the King's face when one of the guests from the subdivision pack mentioned the gossip flying around the party. A dark smirk curved his lips, as he stared maliciously at the King. " Atta boy! Is good to know you have a lick of sense in that head of yours, " Axel complimented his son on his head. This all makes his plans easier to carry out. The King was so worried about how his daughter was faring at yet another act of humiliation towards her to notice the evil plotting look on his second's face. " Do you think she is alright dear? " The Queen communicated through their link spotting the same worried look on her face as is on her mate's. They would have loved to shoot off in search of their daughter but being the leader of the wolf kingdom meant that certain things came before family and they could only hope that their little girl was holding up alright. He was with some high ranking members of the subdivision packs. They were discussing about the peace treaty he was planning with the Vampires. They have been at war with those blood suckers for decades now and he feels a lot of blood have been shed for this meaningless war and it was time for peace between the two race. The Vampire king is open to negotiations if only the wolf King could get all his members on board. Of all the fifteen packs that make up the subdivision seven of those are on board with him, five are on the fence and two bluntly refuses to have anything to do with the blood suckers. Of those two is PearlRiver Pack. The strongest subdivision pack and second to the BlackStone Pack. The wolf King is trying his best to see their Alpha see reason with him and he couldn't scurry off after his daughter. Trace couldn't believe the look on her face. " What is this? "
