If there was one thing Fiona wished with her whole heart it will be to see how she looks. Growing up she has been told often times that she was beautiful, that she looks like the Luna but those words felt empty, like a snail shell because she couldn't see for herself.
It makes her even more helpless relying on others to guarantee her that she looks good. It wasn't something she took lightly and that is why she only trust her two best friends to give her the verdict.
She waited with her heart beating faster for Ciara to say something.
The clothes she had gone with tonight, a long blue gown with a high thigh slit and one hand off the shoulder was one she had picked with Ciara's help.
They had done their shopping together for this party and Ciara had helped her describe the different gowns on display in the boutique they have gone to.
When Ciara had described the gown she had immediately felt it call out to her like the dress wanted her to pick it and having relied on her instinct for so long since the lost of her sight she had pointed at the gown.
Ciara had wanted her to try it on but she had said no wanting the whole thing to be an experience.
She could feel the gown hugging her in all the right places and knew even without Ciara saying a word that she had made the right choice but still she waited for those words.
Ciara has been acting as her best friend eyes for so long that it has become second nature to her.
When Fiona chose the gown without testing it first she must say she had her doubts, but looking at her now the doubts have been cleared away.
She can't say she has seen anything more beautiful than her best friend right now and it made her feel a little jealous.
She took in her best look from her long silky blonde hair falling in shinny curly waves down her shoulders framing her small heart shaped face to her slender feet encased in a silver heels sandals.
The dress gave a slight peep show to a pale smooth slender thigh, before flying up to hug her trim waist.
Fiona's waist was the smallest Ciara has ever seen. She could almost wrap her one hand around it.
She got lost admiring her best friend that she forgot to say something to her.
" Not good? " Fiona asked when her best friend took time to answer, her heart rate increasing faster.
She wanted to look her best tonight, even though her hopes were low for a mate this night, still she wanted to look beautiful.
Ciara blushed for getting lost checking out her best friend.
" I am sorry, just speechless at how stunning you look, " she said with fondness in her voice.
Fiona's heart skipped.
Ciara wanted to say more but the words to aptly describe how good Fiona looked tonight weren't coming.
" Thanks, " Fiona said reaching out for her cane.
Though her voice sounded flat she was pleased at her friend's words.
She wondered if she looks good enough that people will over look her blindness, but who was she kidding. Her blindness was all that defines her in the eyes of most of the pack members that every other thing about her, looks, strength abilities are swept aside.
" Let's go, " she told her friend and headed towards the door.
Ciara did nothing to help her but followed her at her own pace.
Fiona was fiercely independent and any attempt to help her feels like an insult to her and she dislikes that so much.
Being one of her best friends, Ciara does her best to act as if her friend was like everyone else.
Her phone rang in her purse and she reached out to take it.
She smiled at the cartoon image of their other best friend smiling from the phone.
" Is Stark, again, " she said picking up.
" Are you guys done? " there was a note of impatience in his voice.
Ciara rolled her eyes.
This was his fourth call.
" Yeah, we are on our way down. "
" Good, I hate being late, " Stark complained.
" Since when? " Ciara joked making Fiona chuckle.
Their best friend was a chronic latecomer and it has been predicted that he will definitely be late for his burial.
" Since tonight, I am itching to meet my mate, " Stark said excitedly over the phone.
An awkward silence settled like dust over them as Ciara cast a look towards Fiona.
They have dodged the topic of mates for the sake of their best friend and now...
" You are allowed to be happy, finding a mate is a good thing in our community, don't dull your excitement for my sake, " Fiona told her best friends.
For a while now she had known that the two have avoided talking about mates in her presence and she appreciates them for being considerate, but they needn't be. She was a big girl.
" We will see you in a few seconds, " Ciara said into the phone and ended the call.
When they got downstairs their best friend was facing away from them and turned when he sensed their presence.
" Whew! whew! " he whistled in astonishment at the dashing picture of his two best friends.
" Wow! "
He couldn't stop staring especially at Ciara who was blushing under his admiring eyes.
" After you guys are done making giggling eyes at each other can we leave? " Fiona teased smiling at her friends.
She didn't need to see to know how much her best friends like each other. They have been friends for years and she picked up the chemistry between them and it bits her imagination why they haven't acted on it.
" You two look stunning, " Stark commented in an attempt to shift attention from Fiona's words.
" Thanks, " Fiona said and moved past him to the car. She purposely took the back seat leaving the front for her blushing best friend.
" Thank you, " Ciara whispered in a shy tone moving past Stark who couldn't stop staring. When she got to the car and saw what Fiona had done she glared at the girl but had no other option than to enter the front.
Stark took a minute to get his racing heart under control before joining his best friends in the car and getting them on the road.
They drove in silence with music playing in the background to the venue.
When they arrived the whole place seemed packed and it looked as if they were one of the few to arrive late.
There entrance immediately drew the eyes of some of the people in the room. They made a gorgeous trio and people couldn't help admiring the way they look but all these felt to be noticed as the three best friends stood nervously at the entrance like fish out of water gawking at the crowd with a nervous look in their eyes.
" I think we are the last to come in, " Stark mentioned in a conversational tone, trying to mask his nervousness, but wasn't successful as his voice shook a little.
" You are correct, " Ciara mumbled shooting a nervous glance around. She wasn't successful either in hiding how nervous she looked. She felt out of her elements. She has never been to anything this fancy.
Not having a rich parents meant that her family weren't invited to most of the fancy parties in the pack.
This was her first.
As soon as they walked in Fiona almost felt paralyzed by the attack of nerves. Being the focus of attention has never been her forte because she could almost hear the people talking about her.
Everywhere she goes she always sparks up gossips. With either her blindness or how much they pity her parents for having a blind daughter, and having a good hearing ability made it so that she could pick even the smallest whisper about her.
Fiona suddenly froze as something caught her attention.
A scent.
It was strong, spicy with an underlying earthy smell.
" Mate! " her wolf leaped in her chest, excited.
What! Fiona gasped in shock unable to believe it. She had hoped but never believed that she will find her mate tonight.
She stood frozen wondering who her mate could be?
The scent she smelled felt far away which means whoever her mate is, he was lost in the crowd.
Fiona was itching to find out who the person is but she couldn't get her feet to move, she was just to shocked and happy to command her limbs right now.
An electrical feeling washed over her as she felt the mate bond acknowledge by her mate.
Soon he will come to find her.
She couldn't wait.
