Chapter 4

1044 Words
Mara's POV I almost fell asleep on the line for arrivals at the airport. I was that tired. The latest gig for Neantherdals, the modeling company I served as their face, had been super exhausting. What with going across three cities within a week, to meeting the CEO of Andromedans, an uprising rival company, and learning all those things about King Industries and why I might want to jump ship before King Industries make Neanderthals theirs. It was a miracle I didn't fall asleep on the plane itself, though being on a plane had always terrified me since I was eleven. The person behind me nudged me not a little gently and I realized the line had moved again, and I didn't move with it. I must have fallen asleep again. To keep myself awake, I tried thinking of all the things the CEO of Andromedans had told me. Even though they all sounded heavy, I had been with Neanderthals for years now, and I didn't feel comfortable jumping ship. What with all the legal shenanigans I would have to go through to make that a reality. And their pay was good. About twenty minutes later, I was in a cab on my way back to campus, much to my relief. I could finally fall asleep. I did. When next I woke, it was to the driver knocking on my window. Blearily, I paid my fares and dragged my bag out of the luggage hold. At the hostel, I met the surprise of my life. Someone was swiping my keycard slot. Panic surged through me. Was I being robbed? Where did she get my key card? "Hey, that's my room!" I screamed from all the way down the hall. The girl turned, and there was confusion on her face. "You must be mistaken!" she called back to me. "The housing authorities gave me this room. It was empty," Confusion barreled into me. What was she talking about? I'm only gone for a week and they give my room away? I couldn't believe it, but the girl was convinced in no time. The key card itself was enough evidence. But even apart from that, she had other authorisations to live in the room. At last, I was reduced to pleading with her. I was too tired for anything else anyway. "Could you let me crash here for the night? I'm coming from a long travel and –" She didn't let me finish. "I'm sorry," she said. "But my boyfriend is coming over right now. He won't be pleased to have another lady in the room," Frustration bubbled in me as she walked into the room and slammed the door on my face. What was I to do now? I had been so pleased I was finally going to rest, and now, I had to confront the housing authorities? Anger replaced the frustration as I stomped down to their office on the ground floor of the hostel. Only the clerk was in, and she was very sorry, but there was nothing she could do. Didn't I have an off campus apartment? I sighed in frustration. If I had an apartment off campus, why would I need to stay in the hostels? "Perhaps, you could go to the rich residential area? They always have enough space for more than a few persons," the clerk suggested. Huffing, I dragged my bag to the rich residential area like she suggested. The fatigue was gone now, replaced by the raging energy that came with being angry. My footsteps could have cracked the ground had I had a little more weight. The RRA, as it was called, was a lot different from the normal hostels. For one, no student milled about, which was extremely off putting. There was no one to ask where was where, or even beg for me to crash in her apartment for the night. There was nothing for it but to go up each building and knock on their doors. I felt a little like those religious creeps that went around trying to convert people for the Kingdom, but well…..there was no helping it. Some time, I will find the i***t that was responsible for this and bite the skin off his or her face. I took a deep steadying breath as I readied myself to knock on a door. I had just randomly gone into the first building that caught my eye, and I didn't even know who the owner was. As it turned out, he was the worst person I wanted to see at that moment. Jason King opened the door with nothing but his underwear on his body. His face immediately twisted into a scowl the moment he saw me. "The last time I saw you was at the convocation one week ago, and you weren't looking much better then, either.," Those were his first words when he saw me. Truth is, I wasn't that pleased to see him either. But just the thought of dragging my bag down the stairs to go knock on another door made me want to cry. "Please," The words scratched my throat on their way up, but it did nothing to lighten the scowl on his face. "Please what?" he asked. "Can I crash here for the night?" I asked him. "I was having s*x," he said with a raised eyebrow. My jaws fell open. The hall suddenly felt a little too hot as I imagined Jason having s*x. It didn't help that he was all but naked, and his body wasn't exactly ugly. "And I plan to be having s*x all through the night," he continueds. "Can you endure that without throwing yourself on me?" I could tell he was just taking a stab at me, but I was too tired to care. "Try me," I tried to sound challenging. His jaws fell open. It was obvious he hadn't expected me to take the bait. A moment later, his jaws twisted into a mischievous grin. "You've been warned," he said, opening the door wider. On the couch was a girl, stark naked. She didn't even blink when I walked in. "Is she joining us?" the lady asked Jason in a disgustingly hopeful voice. Jason smirked. "Probably.,"
