Chapter 13

I sighed as she fell to the floor. I thought I would feel relieved when it was over but all I felt was numb. I stared at her body as the blood began to spread on the ground. I’m sorry Michael, I should have made it slower and more painful. I was just so tired. I turned back and the shifters had turned back into their human forms. Every one of them were staring at me with wide eyes and open mouths. I realized that they had never seen me kill anyone before. “Gentleman, you might want to put some clothes on before the others arrive.” I sounded as tired as I felt. Without a word Phillip took possession of Blaine while the others pulled pants on. I looked at Jackson and noticed he was bleeding from his stomach. If I gave him blood would the same thing happen as before? Instead of asking I pulled another knife and started trying to get the bullet out of my shoulder. I had just touched the bullet with my knife when Jackson was in front of me pulling the knife away. I looked up at him curiously. “Don’t do that my love. Use your power instead please.” “I need the bullet out so I can give you blood Jackson. I don’t know how to use my power and I’m so tired now.” “Just focus on your shoulder little one. Your power will get it out.” Jackson caressed my cheek as I closed my eyes. Deep breath. I focused on my shoulder and imagined what I wanted to do. I could feel my power faintly. It seemed exhausted but it came to my aid. I felt the bullet push its way back out of my shoulder slowly. The strain was taking a toll on me but I kept at it until I felt the bullet vacate my shoulder. I opened my eyes and looked into Jackson’s eyes. I could see the pride there. “I’m more tired now Jackson. Is it always that exhausting?” “You used a lot of strength with the spells you placed on the building. It’ll become easier for you the more you practice. Now let’s heal us both my love.” I smiled as Jackson’s arms wrapped around me pulling me flush against him. I couldn’t help the reaction in my body to being so close to him. My breathing hitched and my heart began to race. His breath on my neck made me moan and my body soak itself. I could feel him chuckled as he pierced my flesh with his teeth. As before I felt pleasure through my body. Which wasn’t helping me physically. I began to breath faster. My power increased and enveloped us. It felt different than the power I had used before. Warmth flooded my body and the pain disappeared. Jackson gasped and pulled back to look at me. Then the light became blinding and caused us to close our eyes. When I opened my eyes I could see Jackson staring at me with wonder. “You are magnificent little one. With as tired as you are, you still healed us both completely. Your eyes glow the most beautiful blue.” “My eyes glow?” Shock stole into me as I wondered what that meant. “Alright Jack, it’s my turn now. Come here chere.” I allowed Jeremy to pull me into his arms and bury his nose in my neck. My arms automatically went around his neck to hold him close to me. Just being in his arms was calming me down. I heard him inhale and shudder. Don’t worry chere. We’ll figure this out together. Just don’t leave me again. The guilt overwhelmed me so I tightened my arms. I’m so sorry Wolfie. What I told Jackson was true. I knew you would come for me, I just needed enough time for Widow to think I was alone. I realize now that I should have told you my plan before I worried you. Remember that next time chere. I can’t take it if I loose you. You are my everything. I squeezed him a little again. Then I heard people coming in the building. They were all yelling and demanding Blaine be released. I pulled back and looked at Jeremy. He smiled and winked at me. I smiled and nodded showing I understood. Phillip refused to release Blaine and was being threatened by the soldiers present. I sighed and turned toward the commotion. “STAND DOWN!” I yelled above the others. Every soldier looked my way. “Blaine will answer to his father and to me for his treachery.” Every soldier immediately relaxed and moved to the side. Phillip looked impressed that they had listened to me. The others looked shocked. Jeremy just laughed. Everyone turned to me and waited. John came striding into the building without looking at anyone but me. I saw Jeremy go over to Jackson and whisper something to him. Jackson nodded. “My sweet Angel. I was so worried when I got your message. Thank God you’re safe.” John lifted me into a hug and clung to me. “I’m alright John. I am worried about you though. Blaine was helping Widow, who is dead now. I wanted you to make the final decision about your son.” I hugged John back and tried to give him comfort. He put me at arm’s length to look me over. “She’s lying father! You can’t believe what that trash says!” I heard several growls from my friends, the loudest from my mates. John sighed, “You have always been a problem Blaine. I took it easy on you because your mother begged me. We had just lost your sister and I didn’t have the heart to cause her to lose you too. I see we were both wrong.” I held on to John’s arm as sadness radiated off him. “It’s not your fault John.” John patted my hand and looked at his son. “How bad was it?” “He tried to kill her.” Jackson sounded furious, his voice lashed out like a whip. The look John gave me broke my heart. He crushed me to him again. I tried to soothe him but he was shaking from fury. He looked at his son with murderous intent. “You are dead to me.” John glared at his son who paled as he pulled away from me. “Kill him if you want Angel. I have no son.” “John?” “No Angel. No need to question me. His mother would agree with my decision. She thinks of you as a daughter and would be appalled that our own son would do this. She would never want to look at him again.” I nodded and looked to my mates. Jackson and Jeremy seem excited. I nodded to them and they smiled wider. Blaine screamed as they began to drag him out of the building. John shut his eyes and took a shuddering breath. We could hear Blaine’s screams as he was taken outside to face the justice my mates wanted. I held John to me until the screams ceased. “I’m so sorry John. I wish he hadn’t gotten involved with all of this. Maybe you should have never took me in. This is all my fault.” My heart was breaking for him. “No! Angel this is not your fault. He was a problem before I found you. I just never addressed it like I should have. You my sweet girl, are everything my wife and I wished our Grace had become. You’re smart, strong, intelligent, and beautiful inside and out. I am so proud of you and everything you have overcome. I know I said you could leave whenever you needed to but I will miss you dearly. There will always be a spot for you with me. No matter what happens or what you find out, I will always be here for you.” I hugged him then as the tears fell from my eyes. I couldn’t help the sobs from coming. John was trying to soothe me now. I just clung to my adopted father and cried. He rubbed my back and let me cry into his collar. After a while I felt Jackson and Jeremy enter the building again. I had to shut down my emotions if we were going to get out of here. I pulled back to look at my father with tears still falling. He had a small smile on his face as he wiped my tears. “I love you too Angel. If you ever need me, I’ll be there for you. I have to get back to HQ and start finding my replacement for when I finally retire. Please take care of yourself and this fan club of yours.” He hugged me one last time, hanging on for just a little longer than before. I wished things were different for all of us. I whispered thank you and told him I loved him. It felt inadequate considering everything that was said and done. When we parted he nodded to the guys and turned to leave. I stayed where I was and watched him go. The soldiers followed him out and away. I could only watch as the door to my old life was shut. I mourned the loss while I stood there trying not to cry. Arms wrapped around me from behind as I collapsed. I saw Jeremy’s concerned face as darkness took me.
