We descended without him. Once outside, Tony didn’t offer me a ride, going straight to his carriage and leaving. Lance and his Inventor returned to their quadrant in her carriage.
Cesare took me back to Diamond Manor. He’d gotten a note pad and pencil from somewhere, and scribbled the entire ride.
Cesare would of course learn that I’d investigated his brother Jack when he interrogated Mr. Jake Bower. But I no longer felt afraid of that. I felt certain Cesare would understand.
And to my great relief, Katie was at Diamond Manor.
Cesare let Katie go, along with the portraits of the dead and a large horse-truck stuffed full of the captured “Spadros” men. Katie never spoke during our ride into Spadros quadrant, appearing deep in thought.
