Sherlock stood quietly behind the window, unsure of what expression to wear.
Two void rifts…?
This was impossible. Anyone knew that each contractor could only possess one demon.
Even Dante, a contractor who had reached the fourth stage, the pinnacle of individual power in the Empire and even in all of history, could only summon one demon.
No one could open two void rifts!!
Just as there can't be two suns in the sky…
However, with the appearance of the second void rift, another corpse dog emerged.
This left Sherlock speechless, watching from across the street as the two small demons stood obediently in the shadows, like soldiers in training.
One was a corpse dog, and the other was also a corpse dog.
At this moment, Sherlock still harbored a tiny bit of doubt. After all, this situation defied common sense. So, to confirm that both dogs were his contracted demons, he deliberately had one of them lift its hind leg and urinate on the other.
The Corpse Dog seemed to lack a bladder, or its bladder was rotten, or perhaps these hellish creatures simply didn't need to urinate… but its hind leg had indeed made the motion of lifting to urinate…
"Hmm—it seems they really are both mine," he muttered, lost in thought.
It must be said that, as a detective, Sherlock always managed to pick out the most convincing answer from all sorts of strange and unusual information. So, in less than half a second, he found a very persuasive reason for the phenomenon before him.
That is… theoretically speaking, neither of these dogs was his contracted demon.
His demon was still that tentacle, but the tentacle could possess the bodies of other demons and forcibly imbue the possessed demon with the element of 'controllability'.
So what exactly was that tentacle? At this point, almost instantly, he thought of the sun suspended in the sky, its surface covered in terrifying tentacles.
He simply couldn't imagine what kind of being that sun was…
Was it a celestial body?
Or some kind of life?
It seemed more like the latter; after all, it had 'eyes,' so what was it doing suspended in the sky? Was it watching something? Did it possess intelligence? Could it communicate?
Countless mysteries began to stir uncontrollably in Sherlock's mind once again. This urge to explore the unknown made him chuckle involuntarily.
"Hahaha, how interesting…" Standing alone in the room, suddenly letting out such inexplicable laughter seemed rather neurotic; thankfully, Mrs. Hudson, the landlady, wasn't there, or she might have kicked Sherlock out.
“Take your time…take your time; puzzles are like women’s clothes, they’re more fun to unravel one piece at a time.” He waved his hands in front of him, mimicking the motion of playing a violin, but then remembered his violin had long been ruined by some unfortunate robber, so he lowered his hands.
Then, he forced himself to focus his attention on the two demons before him.
…After a few simple experiments, Sherlock clearly determined that these two demons could only move within his domain.
Because once they reached the edge of the domain, they would automatically begin to wander, never taking a single step outside, and all the commands he gave them to 'step out of the domain' were ineffective.
Even his attempts to use any shortcuts, such as 'having one dog knock the other out,' were useless.
However, the good news was that within his domain, no matter where he was, he could maximize his control over the contracted demons, completely unaffected by distance.
He'd tried it before; he could clearly issue commands to the demons within his domain from several kilometers away. The domain's unique perception, after being processed and transformed by Sherlock's powerful calculations and mental constructs, could even completely replace the element of 'sight.'
"So, to give my demons more room to maneuver, the primary task is expansion... Alright, the next goal is to take over the entire Baker Street."
With that, Sherlock fiddled with the two dogs for a while longer before ordering them back into the void rift. He then sat down on the sofa in the room and slowly closed his eyes.
...A few minutes later, when he opened his eyes again, the scorching winds of hell and the pervasive stench of blood rushed towards him.
When he left last time, to prevent the dogs and the severed tentacle from being trapped in the room, Sherlock had deliberately left the door unlocked.
Because the door was open, the hellish winds could easily blow in, and after a whole night, the furniture and floors in the room had acquired a distinctive, rusty, and dilapidated appearance.
Although it looked old and worn, this feeling was comforting to Sherlock, a sense that his domain was merging into the entirety of hell.
But at this moment, he had no time to savor this feeling.
Because… he was already drawn to something before him.
It was a polymer composed of countless tentacles, coiled on the floor before him!
Sherlock didn't know how to describe it, but he knew that it had recently been the corpse of a rotting hound.
When he left the dream world last time, his domain had bound three rotting hounds. One had its brain burrowed into by tentacles, assimilating it into a summonable demon. Judging from the experiment in the real world just now, another one had likely been assimilated in the same way.
As for the last one, the one right before him now, it was clear… the tentacles hadn't assimilated it either.
Instead, they had cruelly burrowed into its body and then carried out some kind of… incubation.
Now, the corpse had become a nest of countless tentacles… those dark, writhing tentacles enveloped it completely, moving in and out of its mouth, eyes, and the blood-stained holes that had burrowed from the carcass.
These tentacles were independent of each other, yet seemed to merge together like sticky mud. They crawled out of the corpse, across the territory they had occupied, and onto the long street of hell.
Sherlock watched these horrific creatures coiling around him, yet felt no fear. He simply rose with curiosity, walked out of the room, climbed the steps, and stood in the hellish wind, his long robes fluttering in the wind.
He looked around the long street.
A scene more horrifying than hell itself unfolded before his eyes…
