TRISTAN'S POV It was the best dinner I had been to in a really long while since Beryl. I had enjoyed every time I had spent with her that evening and I loved this new side of it. It felt like we were tired of stressing ourselves out and just decided to enjoy one night alone. I did not want to think about Beryl, at least not today. For the first time in six years, I allowed myself to be happy. I did not know what had come over me when I told Laureen I would tell her about Beryl, but deep down I knew I would someday, I just wasn't ready to uncover that wound yet. As I drove out of the parking lot, my phone rang, and I saw that it was Joel. He would not like this new information. “Hey cousin. What's up?" I said when I picked up the call. Joel's stern tone set my defenses on high alert.
