Chloe’s footsteps echoed down the long hallway, the rhythm of her heels tapping against the marble floor as she made her way to the dining hall. The house, large and imposing, seemed to grow quieter the further she walked, as if the walls themselves were holding their breath. It had been a long day, and she knew Starry would be back soon, hungry and tired, seeking the comfort of a warm meal. Her steps faltered a little as she approached the grand dining hall. She had something important to say, something that had been swirling in her mind for days. This was the only opportunity she’d get before Starry’s focus returned fully to himself, to his meal, and to the work that always took precedence in his life.
