APRIL’S POV Leo left twenty minutes after his phone alarm reminded him of a meeting he couldn’t miss. He kissed my forehead, quick and dry and familiar, then pulled Ashley into a hug that lingered longer than usual. His arms stayed tight around her shoulders. “Text me when you’re out of class,” he said at the door. His voice was low. “Both of you. And if anything feels off, walk away. No explanations.” Ashley nodded once. “Got it.” He looked at me last. His eyes held mine a second longer than I could manage. “You good?” I wasn’t. My stomach had twisted itself inside out sometime in the night and never righted itself.
