Chapter 6

1769 Words
Grey clouds closed in on the sun, quickly obscuring it. By the minute, they darken more intensely as though produced from factories. Trampling over the crumbling, dry soil there was only a hairsbreadth of grass left. That too looked as if it’d die any second too. Tired and exasperated, I decided to catch a break, resting against an grande oak tree. I knew it was vital to find Maximillian before anything. Despite that, my legs screamed otherwise. I take a mental note to work on my stamina. Here on out, using my wolf had become out of the question considering I had a big bullseye for murder resting on my wolf’s neck. I doubted covering it would do anything. Even so, I pulled a bandage from my bag, thoroughly wrapping my neck. Would it be enough? What was I thinking? Of course not! It was more… a temporary fix. Panting loudly, I lolled my head against the tree. Feeling as though the thick branches intertwined with one another were a trap of unfortunate, I was eager to leave yet my body wouldn’t allow me. Caught in a battle between waging on or resting, I stayed in my spot. “No,” I grumbled. “How the heck am I tired after running away?” That had me. The frightening thought of how weak I was without my wolf given to me from the goddess who I so heavily despised. Awkwardly stumbling to my feet, my mind screaming I was going to die. With time going on, I went on too until a distant sound echoed. Was I imagining things? No, I couldn’t be. Hurriedly, I scan below my scrappy trainer’s, finding no trace of the cracked twig. One thing was evident. I wasn’t alone. In my alertness, my head perked up eyeing the towering trees as though I was playing one of those annoying spot the difference games. “Come out.” I demanded, I stood tall with an admirable, yet defiant glare, making it clear I was in the mood for no games. But deep down, I was hoping they wouldn’t reveal themselves. Unintended, the bushes rustled. Shit. Whoever it was, was coming out. Groping my pockets for the small dagger given to me, fear shot up by the second. When the truth of the dagger’s whereabouts hit me, I knew I was doomed. It was Maximillian. “Your Majesty?” I breathed out in relief. “Yes, Andrea, it is me.” At that moment, I could have hugged him. Even though, I was slightly irritated he sent me on this suicide mission. I was ready for answers. As we exchanged greetings and warm embraces, we covered what happened on both our sides. Obviously, there were some things I had lied about but apart from things that my life depended on, I stuck to the truth. Even worse, I had to do my best to not think about the whole prophesied luna drama. Despite knowing how to block Jared out, second bonds were much stronger and powerful that it’d take time for me too to thoroughly block him. Though I was able to block for small intervals. Lying to him made me more open to the possibility that he could’ve been lying too. Apparently, Maximillian was fighting the entire pack single-handedly after they noticed him and brazenly, made the first punch. Following his victory, the entire pack swore allegiance to him before he set out searching for me. “That’s… that's actually amazing.” I told him. I couldn't believe he managed to defeat an entire pack. “I know.” He told me with a proud grin seeping to his face.“We have to get back quickly, a storm-” “Wait.” I muttered, I looked back at him realising my mistake. “Sorry, your Majesty but did you leave the pack members alone?” “Yes, I did.” His face seemed innocent whilst sirens went off in my head. My lips thickened into a ruminating line. “Andrea?” “What have you done? We have to get to the pack!” Joke or not, he had just done something completely reckless. I had to remind myself he was royalty to stop myself from cursing at him “Relax, Andrea.” He said sternly. “Leaving isn’t even an option for them.” Looking down at the ground, I told him. “I hope you’re sure.” I didn't trust him in the slightest. Moron. … “See, just as I told you.” Maximillian reassured, while walking over the unconscious wolves and men. Trudging forward in the grass, I felt as though I was walking into the remnants of a down-sized battlefield. “Your Majesty, please can you not walk on top of their bodies?” He ignored me as he stopped in front of a young man, probably in his late twenties. He had blood painting his right eye and sticking to his brown hair. Struggling to his knees, he looked as if he was going to die any second. “Is he going to be okay?” I whispered to Maximillian. He nodded, not in his humorous, jolly mood. “Get back down.” He ordered the man. “Bow to your king and maybe he will provide you an ounce of mercy.” I couldn't help but cringe as I realized we were being watched by everyone. And did he just refer to himself in third person? Ouch. Shaken by fear, the alpha dropped to his knees, as did any other members of the pack who hadn’t been injured badly enough. Out of nowhere, a wet droplet licks my arm. Several more come, forming a small drizzle. I cling my arms around my body, probably it wasn't a good idea to forget my jacket. “Rise,” Maximillian commanded. He didn’t have to wait long for the demand to be obeyed. “Now take us to where we’ll be staying.” … “Your Majesty?” “Yes, Andrea.” Maximillian answered. Maximillian was now staying in the Alpha’s room while I was staying in the Luna’s room after Max made a fuss. I hadn’t taken a look at it but from what I was told by Max was that the rooms were identical but with different colours. For instance, the room we were in now had walls painted with a dark, fiery red and the furniture didn’t fail to match it otherwise. However, with the challenge of the red room it still managed to hold onto its luxurious grace. For the past hour, I remained in Maximillian’s room, exasperated and sweaty. He’d order me to come but so has revealed nothing. “What punishment will you give them?” We were both sitting on the edge of the bed. I was going to ask him why he’d ask me to come but I was more curious about what he wanted to do to the pack. “I haven’t decided.” He replied truthfully. “As much as I want to kill them, they’d make better use as spies for us.” At the word ‘spies’, I raise an eyebrow. “Spies?” “Yeah, the information we have on their plans is limited.” “I’m planning on placing some wolves from our pack to keep an eye on everything.” “You sure?” I asked. “Won’t that be putting too much faith in people here?” “Definitely,” He said. “That's why it’s less of an disguise and more of a hide around. I already had access to a few but more are needed.” “Then what was the point of all of this?” I demanded. “For this,” He said flipping a black USB into the palm of his hand. “This provides me access to security cameras, data on pack individuals and more.” “So all of this was to relieve your stalking addiction?” I muttered below my breath. However I didn’t expect him to hear. And luckily he only laughed. “Couldn’t someone else have done it?” “No, Andrea.” He then removed the silver metal to reveal a 5-digit code on the the inside. “This must remain a secret, which is why I had to be the to obtain this.” “Okay…” I said. “But what is it?” “I don’t know but it definitely connects to the Rogues. I can tell by the logo, it a secret company they have within the human world. Goddess, knows it’s true intentions for being stationed there.” “That's worth investigating…” “I will.” He said with exceeding confidence. “However, I’m more concerned about finding the real prophesied luna. Aren’t you?”

Staring at him terrified whilst doing my best not to think about his words. “I guess so, since she is afterall destined to bring the rogues to their defeat.” There was no way I was doing that. “Not quite what I had in mind.” “What do you mean?” “Look at the amount of trouble Maria has caused with that name, when I find the real one, I’m going to kill her. Of course you’d help me, right?” My heart skipped a beat. What do I even say to that? “Sure,” I lied. My heart only began to rest as soon as the topic came to a close. Maximilian hated the prophesied Luna? Whilst it kind of hurt, I decided to let the question sit. Last thing I needed was for him to doubt my lie. To my advantage, the alpha’s room was opposite the beta's if I needed Maximilian. But I think for the next few hours I wanted to stay away from him. Our talk left my nerves on edge and my tongue was dry and patchy with the sudden thirst that hit me. I told myself that I’d get water after I took a shower. But spoiler: that didn't happen til the next morning. As I opened the door a blast of penetrating air pierced through me. The only source of light was the solid, natural blue from the windows. Kicking my shoes off, I flip the light on. As the remains of light pours into the room, it outlines the dreary figure ahead. When their head snapped towards me, it became clear they were an intruder. Also that I was screwed. I prepared run, knowing this wouldn't end well.
