Chapter 2 – Into the Shadows Amara’s heart pounded as the hand pulled her into the darkness of a quiet hallway. Her mind raced—who was it? And how did they appear so suddenly? “Who,who are you?” she whispered, trying to steady her breathing. The figure stepped closer, and the familiar warmth of Liam’s presence hit her like a shockwave. His hand released hers, but his eyes never left hers. “Liam…” she breathed, relief and fear colliding in her chest. “Why—why did you—” “Shh,” he murmured, placing a finger gently against her lips. “They’re watching. We can’t be seen.” Her father’s furious gaze burned in her memory, and Derek’s smirk made her stomach twist. Yet here, in the quiet, Liam seemed… different—vulnerable, almost human. She wanted to believe in that moment, even as danger loomed. “Amara, listen to me,” Liam said, voice low. “I didn’t come here by accident. I need to tell you something… something important.” Her pulse quickened. “What is it?” Before he could answer, the sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway. Amara froze, the weight of fear pressing down on her. “They’re coming,” Liam whispered urgently. “We have to move now.” He grabbed her hand again, and they slipped into a hidden corridor behind a tapestry. Shadows swallowed them, leaving only their racing hearts and unspoken words. Amara’s thoughts swirled. Could she trust him? Should she trust him? And what was this secret that had brought danger so close, so fast? ... As they disappeared into the shadows, a cold voice called from the hall: “Don’t think you can hide from me, Amara…”
