By morning, I had already made up my mind to do something about the path I was on. I got dressed, paying more attention than usual, grabbed my keys, and drove straight to Ryan’s office in Manhattan. I had never been there before, but I knew exactly where it was. It wasn’t hard to find when someone like him made headlines as often as he did. The receptionist glanced up as I walked in. “Do you have an appointment?” “I’m here to see Ryan Prescott.” She gave me a polite smile. “Do you have an appointment with him?” “No.” “I’m sorry, I can’t let you through without one.” That was expected. I nodded, leaning forward. “Call him. Tell him Liora is here to see him.” She hesitated. “I can’t do that.” I held her gaze. “You should.” She didn’t back down. For a second, I almost let it go.
