Leonardo and I really were sneaking around. He had reached the make-or-break stage of his climb, and a relationship surfacing now would have cost him everything.
So when my mother found out that Simon and I had fallen apart, she lined up six blind dates for me out of pure spite. She scheduled one a day and gave me Sundays off. She had thought it through.
"Nicole. Let's go down to the City Hall and make it official." Leonardo's voice had dropped low after the third dinner I turned down. "I need something solid."
