Chapter 2 Wild Wolves

1128 Words
Seeing the woman before her so defeated,Lucy’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction. She pulled a pair of scissors from her bag and moved menacingly toward Natalie. “What are you doing?” A chill ran down Natalie’s spine as a sense of dread gripped her.Just as she tried to step aside,Lucy lunged and drove the scissors deep into her hand. A sharp, searing pain coursed through her, blood spilling across the floor.Natalie’s face paled as she instinctively tried to pull away, but Lucy held on with all her strength, refusing to let go. The scissors burrowed deeper, shifting the pain from sharp to numbing, but even more numb was Natalie’s heart. She forced herself to speak, her voice strained.“What gives you the right to do this to me?” From Lucy’s earlier movements,Natalie had already pieced together her intention—crippling her hand so she’d never be able to hold a scalpel again. But what had she done to deserve this? She was innocent, yet she faced the relentless torment from this brother and sister. “I don’t need any reason other than not wanting you,a murderer,to have an easy life.If you don’t like it,go ahead and tell my brother!” Lucy calmly took out a handkerchief and wiped her hands, showing no fear at the sight of the blood pooling on the floor. “I’ll just say you tried to kill yourself and hurt your hand when I tried to stop you.Let’s see if my brother believes a murderer like you or me!” Lucy let out a scornful laugh, then strode out of the room with confident steps. Natalie slumped to the floor, her eyes dry and hollow, unable to shed a single tear. Countless times, she had wondered if death would be better than a life filled with torment. But her unyielding spirit always pushed that thought away. The truth about Jayden's parents'death hadn’t come to light yet.She couldn’t accept carrying the label of a murderer for the rest of her life. Natalie’s face was pale as she bit her lip, hastily tending to her wounded hand. She lay down, forcing her anxious mind to rest, but the mere thought of what she had to do next made her tremble uncontrollably. That man was terrifying, and if he discovered what she was planning, the consequences would be severe. But she couldn’t just sit and do nothing.Even if the odds of escaping were slim, she had to take the risk. Time crept by,second by second. Just as Natalie reached the peak of her anxiety, the sound of an engine rumbled faintly from the courtyard below. “Where is she?” Jayden unbuttoned the cuffs of his shirt as he spoke nonchalantly. “Mrs.Roberts has been in her room all evening. She’s probably asleep by now,”Sofia said respectfully, casting a quick glance upstairs. Jayden frowned but didn’t reply. He picked up his files and went straight to his study on the third floor. Only when all the noise had died down did Natalie cautiously step out of her room. To her surprise, the main door downstairs wasn’t locked, nor was anyone guarding it,as if no one had expected her to have the nerve to try to escape. She made it to the courtyard, but her palms were slick with sweat from fear, and she stumbled over a stone in her path. The sound, though faint, was alarmingly clear in the silent, dark night. It felt as if a cold stare was drilling into her. She shivered and looked up,locking eyes with a pair of glowing, fierce green eyes. A wolf! Natalie’s body turned icy as she instinctively tried to run,but the starving beast pounced, knocking her to the ground. The threat of death loomed inches from her face. She could feel the wolf’s sharp claws slicing her skin, the pain burning like fire. “No…get away!” Terror-stricken,Natalie struggled desperately, but the wolf bared its teeth and lunged for her neck. Just as she braced for the end,a gunshot echoed in the night. The wolf’s head jerked back, and it fell limp, blood splattering across her face. Natalie wanted to scream, but her body was paralyzed, her voice caught in her throat as she turned in shock. On the third floor,Jayden stood, his gaze dark and menacing as he watched her, eyes as cold as ice. A chill ran down her spine, and only one thought filled her mind. It’s over. Jayden’s expression remained stormy as he dragged her back to her room, throwing her onto the floor with force. He loomed over her, eyes blazing with fury,as the dim light of the small lamp cast harsh shadows across his face, making him look like a demon from hell. He hadn’t said a word, but the seething anger radiating from him was palpable. Natalie trembled, bowing her head to avoid meeting his eyes. “Trying to escape?” The silence was suffocating until he finally spoke, his voice laced with icy contempt. Natalie’s lips moved soundlessly, too afraid to admit anything. She knew if she provoked him,her fate would be even worse than that of the wolf. No.It would be much worse. “Still the same, lying through your teeth!Tell me,did you set the fire back then? Were you responsible for my parents’deaths? If you don’t confess now,I’ll end you!” He stepped closer, eyes narrowed, and brow furrowed deeply. “I didn’t do it!No matter what you think,I won’t admit to something I didn’t do.Even if it kills me!Why won’t you believe me?Do you really think I’m that cruel?” Despair washed over her as tears threatened, but she fought them back, looking up at him with defiance and fear. “Still lying!Natalie, the evidence is right in front of me.How am I supposed to trust anything you say?A woman as scheming as you doesn’t deserve to live. You should have died a long time ago!” Jayden, overcome with rage, grabbed her wrist tightly and shouted. “Hmph, dying so easily would be too kind.Suffering through every moment is what you deserve.” He noticed her wince, seeing the bandages wrapped around her hand.As he yanked her, blood seeped through, staining the fabric. A flicker of doubt crossed his eyes but was quickly replaced by coldness. “Trying to earn my sympathy by hurting yourself, huh?Clever. But even if you died right in front of me,I wouldn’t bat an eye. You’d only have yourself to blame.” Jayden scoffed, tossing her onto the bed.Still unsatisfied,he leaned down and bit her shoulder, ripping her clothes once more. Natalie cried out in pain, struggling, but her hands were pinned by his iron grip. The moment reminded her of the wolf from earlier, but this man was even more brutal, more merciless. Jayden seemed determined to vent all his anger, leaving marks across her skin. Natalie’s body shook, her wrist already bruised and swollen. Looking at her,Jayden licked the blood from his lips with a satisfied smirk. His voice dropped, cold and sharp. “Thought you didn’t feel pain? “Try escaping again, and I promise you’ll suffer a fate far worse than that wolf’s.” His tone was pure threat, and the room grew even colder.
