The first thing Natalie did was go to her room to search for the old phone hidden under the mattress. But when she reached for it, her fingers grasped at nothing. Suddenly, Jayden’s subtle, knowing look from earlier replayed in her mind.
Natalie bolted out of her room to confront him.
“You took my stuff!” she said, blocking his way and questioning him directly.
Jayden, towering over her, looked down with an amused glint in his eyes. “What stuff?” He didn’t bother denying it outright.
Gritting her teeth, she said, “It was you. I know it.”
He let out a derisive laugh. “I don’t touch things that don’t belong to me. If you want it back, you’ll have to tell me what it is, and then we can talk about who it really belongs to.”
