Chapter Thirty Nine

1454 Words
♠ Austin Hames ♠ “You two should get married thoughts already,” dad said, his tone devoid of emotion. Kim visibly tensed beside me, obviously lost of words. It was obvious dad's unleaving gaze wasn't doing her any good. So I had to come to the rescue, placing a hand on her intertwined own that laid on her laps. “Don't you think that's a little discomforting considering the fact she's new to all these?” I ensured to not give any emotion that said we might never get married in my tone. “Yeah, I know that, but—” “Oh come on dad, don't make this situation more awkward than it should be,” Katie came to our rescue. Thank goodness she did so. He nodded, “why don't we eat then,” but it was obvious he would say more about that later. Kim still seemed tense, and at first I thought she was still worried about the marriage thing. Not until I noticed my hand still on hers. I removed it immediately, a spark running down the hand at the feeling on her bare laps. The colors rose to her cheeks, which she tried covering with her hair, but to no avail. My heart beat spiked a little, and only worsened when I turned to notice the teasing smile on Katie's lips. Seriously. This all brought me back to last night's kiss. That was the most hunger I'd ever felt for a woman. When she walked out in the braless nightgown, my body began internally trembling to run through her body. Like, the cloth was literally just soft, so her t**s were framed in it, catching all my senses. It had taken much effort to stay sane while she talked. All I wanted to do was head to the bathroom and take a cold shower to wash off the effect. But then she'd stopped me with whatever words she'd said that I obviously didn't hear. That had done it for any pinch of self control I had left. It was obvious she was calling me to do what I eagerly wanted to. And that was a big opportunity for me that I didn't plan on wasting so I went to give her the most hunger filled kiss of my life. I wasn't sure what had gotten into me, but at that moment, I eagerly wanted us to get to bed. But then she drew back to catch her breath. The thought of her actually catching her breath snapped my senses back. Because that meant I must've been kissing her like a fool, sucking every breath from her body. That wasn't like me, so it had certainly startled me. I had to take a long shower to cool myself, and when I got to bed, sleep was not a friend. Thoughts of it all haunted me every second. It was obvious from her constant position change that she wasn't asleep also, but I decided to not let her know about mine. No use creating an awkward position for us. I was aware she planned on leaving early this morning, but decided to see how things went before stopping her. So here we were, sitting beside each other with silent awkwardness swimming around us. Once breakfast was over, dad invited me to his office to talk, as he'd called it. But I was no fool to not realize he wanted to discuss this marriage whatever. “You'll start work Monday, I hope you're ready for the responsibility that's coming your way?” He bagan once we were comfortably seated on the two sofas in his office. “I'm sure you won't entrust me with such if you didn't think I was capable of building the company.” Just as how he'd entrusted me with the responsibility of head manager while I was in university. Those were the days before I began traveling around the world to play. “Yeah,” he shifted forward in his chair, “when do you two plan on getting married? Or at least having a child?” I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. He'd finally stepped into the topic that had obviously occupied his mind. “I don't think I need to remind you that we've only dated for,” I did a quick calculation of what I told him last time, “five months.” “Starting discussions like that will only invite awkwardness to our relationship,” even if this wasn't a fake relationship, I was still right. Why was he even so eager for me to get married? “Yes, I'm aware of that,” he continued, “and I'm not telling you to do so now, I'm just asking when.” “When we're ready,” “When will you be ready?” Though his tone was still steady, I could see the frustration blazing in his eyes. “I don't know, I can't know,” in feigned annoyance, I rose to my feet, heading to the door. “Where are you going?” “I'm going home where you won't interfere in my relationship and risk chasing the love of my life away with unnecessary questions.” Satisfied with myself, I pushed the door open, leaving without waiting for another word from him. I went to the parlor where Kim sat on a couch, chatting with mom and Katie while Kelvin just sat beside Katie, looking a little uncomfortable, or maybe shy. Probably because he planned on proposing soon. “Let's go Kim,” I still put on the act of being annoyed, by maintaining a stern tone. Anything to avoid dad bringing up the topic again. “What's wrong?” Mom sounded alarmed as she jumped to her feet after Kim. But Katie, who had a knowing expression, stayed silent. “Don't you want to at least stay a while?” Mom's pleading tone almost got me to change my mind. “We've stayed enough, I'm sure Kim wants to head home,” I explained, offering her a small respectful nod, before leaving, Kim obviously trailing behind me. Once out of the house, we silently got into my car, and soon I was on the road to her house. There was a very awkward silence as I drove, obviously an after effect of the kiss. This was something I didn't like. Awkwardness. “I'm starting work Monday,” I broke it with words she'd obviously not care to know, “I'm just telling you so you don't start messaging me about sport ideas.” She nodded, looking anywhere but me. The silence that followed was even more frustrating than the previous. I couldn't take it anymore, so I pulled over to the side, turning to her confused expression. “What's—” “Let's talk about last night,” I hated how my heart rate increased at that word, but it was better to get over with it once and for all. She shook her head, staring out the window with reddened cheeks, “I'd rather not.” “Well, I want to,” my tone came out in a way that she had no say in refusing. After a sigh, she nodded, but didn't turn to me. “This deal's still ongoing for a year, which means we can't live in awkwardness for an entire year,” “We both admit last night was a mistake, and something any other normal male and female would do if they were to be in our shoes.” Her cheeks reddened even more. That didn't stop me from continuing, “so let's just forget we did something like that and move on with our normal lives, okay?” When she nodded, I took that as a positive answer and started the car, driving off. At least the drive was a little less awkward, though still silent. About thirty minutes later, her house came into view so I stopped in front of it. “Goodbye,” she finally spoke, getting out of the car, before staring like she just recalled something, “and see you tomorrow.” “Oh,” I totally forgot tomorrow was Sunday and another basketball teaching session. “Will we be playing together again?” She asked. “No, we'll do something new,” a smirk found its way on my lips at the sight of her raised brow. “And what might that be?” “You'll know,” closing her side of the door since she didn't seem to plan on doing that, I started the car, zooming off and leaving her to ponder on what tomorrow would be about. Well, she'd know.
