He pulled me closer to him while I stared in nothing but bewilderment.
Surely I was dreaming, right?
Because that should be the only explanation as to why Austin would just grab me by the waist when I'm just going on a walk and call me his…
Girlfriend?
I took off the earpod, placing it in the pocket of my jeans in case I hadn't heard right.
Wait, did he seriously just say that?
It took a lot of effort to shift my gaze to who he was talking to, and I couldn't help the slight surprise at the two familiar figure in front of me.
Where did I know them from?
Immediately, it snapped.
They were Katie's parents.
I'd only ever seen them once and that was on her birthday last year when they'd come to celebrate it at her place.
If they were Katie's parents, then they certainly were his parents.
But then what was he saying about me being his girlfriend?
I turned back to him, noticing that the smile he offered spoke nothing but ‘play along’.
Normally, I wouldn't play along, because why the f**k would I just act like the girlfriend of some guy I didn't like one bit.
But then, I also didn't want to put Katie's brother in any kind of problem, so I'd just see where this goes.
“She's your girlfriend?” Chris asked, staring exactly how he sounded. Like he didn't believe him one bit.
“Good afternoon sir.” I turned to him and his wife, feigning a smile that looked real to the outer eyes. "It's so good to see you again.”
His brows furrowed in confusion. "Have we met before?”
“Oh yes,” his mom, Nora said, sounding excited to see me, “we met last year at Katie's party. Are you two seriously dating?”
I nodded, while he said, “I wanted to surprise you guys by bringing her home during Thanksgiving and announcing that she's my girlfriend, but you were too eager to meet with her earlier.”
Woah. How easily the lie slipped off. Had he rehearsed it or what?
Chris obviously didn't believe a word. "But wasn't she just walking on the street when you grabbed her?”
Oh my, had we been caught?
Why would he randomly grab any female from the street and expect to not be caught?
He at least looked unshaken by the question, “I didn't expect to see her here today, but then she suddenly appeared, so I was kind of ready to do the introduction.”
“How long have you two dated?” Nora asked, her grin moving from ear to ear.
Was she that excited to see her son with a girl?
“Four months,” he quickly added, just when I said, “a year.”
“A year?” Nora now had a tiny bit of doubt in her expression, “Four months?”
He still looked unmoved, while I was literally shaken within.
What if we were caught and they got me arrested for lying?
Of course I could bail myself out, but then my social status would be in trouble.
Who knows, Suzy might think it was perfect to use that as an opportunity to become better than me.
“We've known each other for a year,” he started, causing all gaze to rest on him, “and she's liked me for that long, but we started dating officially four months ago.”
I internally huffed. Why would he assume I'd be the one to like him for a year?
Nora believed again, while Chris seemed to be contemplating whether or not to believe.
“Have you two ever kissed?” She asked, seeming all bubbly to know what the answer would be.
My heart raced faster because I knew this scene. I'd written it tons of times in novels.
“No,” I quickly said, but sadly he'd said, “yes,” before me.
“I'll just say it,” Chris placed a hand in his pocket, “I don't believe you two are actually a real couple.”
“Why? What would make you believe?” Austin's cold tone matched his dad's, just like so many other similarities.
“Kiss her.” Nora said with more of a squeal. “Then I'm certain his rock brain would believe.”
My heart raced faster at the moment, because I'd certainly written these types of scenes in novels and no way was I letting it happen to me.
“Oh no, I'm actually a shy person,” my voice came out shaky while I tried releasing myself from his grip.
But then he did what I'd consider a nightmare.
He pulled me closer so my hands flew to his hard chest, placing his other hand on my neck then pressed his lips against mine.
My brain melted as soon as our lips met. Why was he doing this?!
We could've made up a f*****g excuse or just done any f*****g thing?!
I mean, he just grabbed me randomly and called me his f*****g girlfriend, but didn't stop there!
Now he was kissing me!!!
I knew I should pull apart, but I already joined him with this stupid lie, there was no use putting myself in trouble.
It took a lot of effort to close my widened eyes, expecting it all to be over.
Oh heck, he didn't stop with a peck and just began exploring my mouth, sucking the breath out of my body.
His tongue moved into my mouth, savoring it like this really wasn't our first time kissing.
Finally, he pulled apart, offering me a smile that didn't reach his eyes while I tried suppressing my anger, before turning back to his parents who looked stunned.
The actually looked like they believed.
“Wow, I didn't think you were capable of such in public." Nora giggled, grabbing her husband's elbow. “Let's get going. Let's leave them alone.”
He smiled. "Yeah, yeah sure,” then patting Austin's shoulders, they both walked away to wherever I didn't care about.
Once they were gone, Austin released his grip on my wrist while my blood boiled.
“What the f**k was that about?!” I barked, offering him a death glare while he just remained unshaken.
“Do I look like some f*****g slut that you can just pick up and say I'm your girlfriend, then kiss me like I've got no value whatsoever.”
“I only kissed you because they insisted on it." He sounded so indifferent, it only infuriated me further.
Especially since he was acting like how the male characters in novels would.
But writing it used to be fun. Witnessing it certainly wasn't.
It was frustrating.
“Didn’t you think there was a possibility of saying something else." Brcause that was literally what should come to a normal person's mind at first.
“I know it wasn't right to just kiss you like that." He started, looking bored of the conversation already.
“Obviously." My hands flew to rest on my hips while my blood boiled further.
“I should've talked to you about it all first." He continued, beginning to confuse me.
“Huh?”
“I know you need someone for the holidays to learn about basketball,” he said, only increasing my confusion, “so I'm yours for now, if you'll be mine for a year.”
What was happening?
