Chapter Twenty Two

981 Words
♠ Kim Stans ♠ I was greeted by a sharp pain in my head as soon as I woke up. What a great way to start a new day. I had to resist the urge to huff, wrinkling my forehead to try surpass the pain, and tried to force the sleep to come back. When it seemed like there was no drifting back to whatever dream I'd been having, I finally gave in, opening my eyes. Surprisingly, I was greeted by the sight of Oliver and Layla, and all the memories of last night came flowing back into my head. Placing both elbows on the bed, I lifted myself to a sitting position, hating how much my head hurt. “Good morning, how do you feel?” Oliver asked like she was trying to conceal the worry in her tone. “A huge amount of headache,” I explained as the door swung open, and Austin walked in, a maid beside him, holding a tray of a bowl of what I assumed to be food with a glass of water. “You didn't have anything to eat during the dinner yesterday, so you should eat now,” he said in a stern tone, as the maid dropped the tray on the table and after a bow, left. He turned to Oliver and Layla, “if you two don't mind, I would like to talk to her privately while she eats.” From Oliver's expression, it was evident she was hesitant on leaving, and his tone hadn't helped make her feel better. But I nodded for her to leave and that I'd be alright, so the both of them left with Layla offering me a small smile. “Come on, you should eat something,” he said, gesturing for me to come sit on the couch. With much more effort than normal, I was able to crawl out of bed amidst all the headache, then head to the couch which I collapsed on. He took a seat opposite me, staring intensely at me which actually made me feel discomfort. I stared down at the breakfast in front of me, and the sight caused my stomach to growl, reminding me of the fact I hadn't had anything to eat all day. He obviously noticed because the side of his lips hitched upwards a little. Just a little. The sight made it obvious that if he smiled more, he'd be so damn hot. Annoyed at myself for thinking about him being hot and all, I grabbed the bowl of oatmeal, taking a spoon of it as my body really needed food. The hunger still staying in me, I took another spoon, glad that the food tasted fabulous, then another and another. Once I took the fifth spoon, I recalled that I had company, and quickly turned to stare at him staring at me in what I probably assumed to be— admiration? For a split second, our gaze locked, sending an unexpected bolt to my heart, before I averted my gaze to the food. “You said you wanted to talk to me about something,” I reminded, wondering if he'd felt how I had. “Yes,” he didn't sound like so, “I decided to contact the CCTV team about your claims on being pushed.” With that, I stared back up at him, no longer feeling hungry, “you did? Wh-What did it say?” “They will try getting the footage and afterwards, I'll be sent the photo,” he explained. My heart raced at the thought of last night and being pushed. That was the scariest experience of my life and I was certain I'd been pushed. Probably noticing how anxious I was, he offered me an assuring look, “you shouldn't worry yourself too much about all this, I'm certain no one would want to willingly push you.” But he couldn't know that, because he wasn't there to watch the scene or feel the hand on my back. A knock came from the door, causing all directions to head to it. “Come in,” Austin said in a stern tone. The door swung open to reveal Suzy dressed in a purple tank top with dark blue denim shorts as she sauntered in, immediately irritating me with her presence alone. She stared at me, seeming delighted with my miserable look. And how I wished she didn't see me looking like how I did (terrible probably), because this would be tagged as the most embarrassing day of my life. My brows were drawn together as I turned to the food I no longer felt like eating then dropped the plate on the table. It seemed like Austin could sense my annoyance at her presence, because he asked, “is there a reason you're here?” “I just came to check on my dear Kim,” she said, sounding like my state gave her more satisfaction than it would've given me if it were the other way round. “Well, sh—” but his ringtone from the pocket of his pants interrupted him. He retrieved the phone staring at the caller, then to me, “one sec,” and stood up, walking out of the room, just to leave me and a b***h in the same room. “So after all your pretence of acting all like a pretty sexy author, you can actually end up looking this terrible,” she sniggered, but my brows were furrowed. “What? Something wrong with your head also?” It was obvious she was finding all this funny. But the truth, I knew too well, “Suzy,” Finally done with laughing, she wiped an invisible tear off her eyes, “hmm?” “You are the one who pushed me into the pool yesterday,” I said the obvious.
