If I'd expected it to be celebrated in a grande way with tons of businessmen, then I certainly didn't know what I was thinking.
Chris and Nora's house was just filled with a few workers from the company with Katie and some other people.
When we arrived, everyone had greeted us, a lot of them staring at me in awe like I was some special commodity (which was very discomforting).
“Hello!” Chris began, drawing the attention of everyone and silencing the not-so-loud crowd, “These past few years have been…”
He started whatever speech he planned on saying while I just sat awkwardly beside Austin, wishing I could move over to where Katie sat, fingers intertwined with Kelvin.
This was obviously going to be the most boring place I'd ever attend.
Worse of all, Chris didn't seem close to ending his speech.
Out of boredom, my eyes travelled through the crowd who seemed interested in the speech (or maybe they pretended to since he was their boss).
Gosh, how much longer will he talk for?
I checked the time, hoping to see he'd have been talking for about ten minutes.
But it was just one minute.
That did it.
I placed my hand on Austin's elbow, drawing his attention from the speech, to me.
His brows were drawn as he leaned closer for me to whisper in his ears.
“Can I go use the toilet?”
He nodded, “you want me to take you there?”
My eyes widened on their own accord, “no thank you,” why would he even suggest that?
“Uh,” he stared at me like I was the weird one here.
“I'll ask a worker in the house to take me there, thanks,”
After he nodded, I stood up, trying not to draw attention as I slipped through the crowd.
I asked for directions from a passing maid, who began leading me to the toilet.
Truthfully, I didn't want to actually go to the toilet but what else could I do when I was so bored listening to something that was none of my business and I probably will not remember after today.
We had passed through different routes before she led me to the toilet, then after a bow, left me alone.
The toilet was huge, as I'd expect a mansion toilet to be like, with multiple toilet doors together.
I didn't bother entering any, and just stared at myself in the mirror, fixing my make-up (though nothing was wrong with it).
“If it isn't my rival,” a disgusting voice called from the door.
Suzy soon appeared beside me in the mirror, fixing her makeup also (not that it was ruined).
“What am I your rival at?” I patted my lips with my index finger, reducing the amount of red lipstick I had added.
She raised a confused brow at me, “huh?”
I could feel her gaze from the mirror, “am I your rival in writing, or dating Austin?”
Her widened eyes proved she didn't think anyone would figure out she liked Austin.
I mean, that was very much obvious.
“W-What are you talking about?”
I couldn't help rolling my eyes, “it's kinda obvious girl,”
Her chest rose and fell at a high speed as she turned to me, “well, so? What has that got to do with you?!”
Returning the makeup to my purse, my head tilted sideways in her direction.
“It has everything to do with me,” I enjoyed watching the steam pour out of her ears, “because he's my boyfriend.”
A satisfied smile took over my face when her nails dug into her palm.
“You and I both know it's because he wants to secure the CEO position,” she said through gritted teeth.
Of course she knew.
I could already guess that she knew about it. All I could hope was that he hadn't told her about me doing it for my novel.
“Still,” dramatically backing her and starting towards the door, I stopped when my hands reached for the knob, “he chose me and not you,”
With that, my feet pranced out, feeling exultant about it all and also aware I'd pushed a button in her.
Afterwards, I moved back to where Austin was.
He didn't say anything when I took the seat next to him, his gaze fixed on his father.
About fifteen minutes later, Chris concluded with, “and I'll be more than glad to hand over the company to Austin, but only for the meantime,”
“Austin Hames, please come up and take the honor,” his words were followed by a thunderous applause from the crowd.
Austin smoothly stood up, stretching a hand for me to take, which I did, rising up also.
His hand didn't leave me as we advanced towards Chris, who handed something I'd assume was a trophy which read “CEO Austin Hames” on it, to him.
Chris left and Austin took over with another extra ten minutes of boring speech.
What made it even more tiring was the fact I had to stand beside him, acting interested and all.
Finally we were done and went back to our seats.
Meals were served and people chatted with each other.
Austin led me to some workers, introducing me as his girlfriend and all.
I hadn't had the time to chat with Katie as she seemed occupied with certain things.
About a few moments later, a male strode towards us.
He was undeniably handsome with a physique similar to Austin's.
But from how Austin's expression moved to anger, I could assume the two weren't on good terms.
“Hey,” the male greeted once he was in front of us, a lopsided smirk playing on his lips.
“I didn't think you'd come,” Austin pocketed a hand, probably not aware how handsome that gesture made him look.
“There's no way I'll miss seeing you taking over the company,” their gazes locked as the smirk transformed to a sneer, “because this will be the only time you'll ever be announced. Next year, it's not going to be you.”
What on earth was going on?
Their intense gaze was enough to let me know they hated each other.
I was certain he'd forgotten about my presence, not until the male turned to me.
The side of his lips hitched upwards, “hi, you must be the new fiancee,”
My brows furrowed at the word ‘new’, what did that mean?
“Enough,” Austin's gritted teeth startled me, but was replied with a satisfied smile from the man.
“I'm Justin,” he stretched out a hand for a handshake, “Justin Hames.”
