Chapter 4

558 Words
Two nights before, I had met the Lycan King Damien for the very first time. That was when I'd learned,to my shock, that my arrogant, swaggering boyfriend Alpha Kael had a twin brother. A devastating, dominant, true-born Lycan King. He'd been overseas for years, handling matters far beyond the reach of small packs like ours. He rarely came home. When Damien was present, Kael,my self-important, peacocking Alpha, shrank into himself like a frightened pup. Kael never even spoke his brother's name. That first night, the Lycan King Damien barely glanced in my direction. He said exactly one thing to me. "Seraphina. That's a beautiful name." I had no idea why he agreed to Kael's idiotic, debauched little wager. But I had an instinct. A bone-deep one. If I wanted to survive the power games of these bastards, the only path I could see,the only one,was to bend toward Damien. Something in my gut told me, from the very first look: this man is not Kael. This man is a different species. I had just stepped out of the bath when a pair of brutally strong arms slid around my waist from behind. He bent his head to kiss my throat. I let out a soft, teasing laugh. "Oh, darling, why so impatient tonight, Alpha Kael?" The kiss on my lips stilled. "Change my name, would you?" "What name would you like?" "Have you forgotten what you usually call me?" "Your name. My Alpha. Oh, and one time,my Mate…" The kiss came back, hotter than before. "Tonight, call me brother. You've never once called me that." "Brother?" I opened my eyes in startled innocence. In the next breath he devoured me in a kiss so hot, so possessive, my knees gave out. The Lycan King Damien pressed me down into the mattress. There was only a single dim lamp burning in the room. I raised a hand. I wanted to touch his face. He tilted his head a little, letting my fingertips trace the line of his brow, the cut of his cheekbone, the strong arc of his jaw. When my fingers slid down his throat, his robe came open. He shrugged it off and tossed it aside. The dark silk pooled at the foot of the bed, tangled with my thin nightdress. He lowered himself over me. His big, knuckled hands locked around my waist. "Seraphina." "Mmm?" I opened my heavy eyes. His throat worked,a violent swallow. And then he sank into me. I cried out. The tears were already on my lashes before I knew they were coming. Before they could fall, his impossibly hot mouth kissed them away. "Say it again." "Kael…" A deeper thrust shattered the name in my mouth. I looked up at him, betrayed, wounded. Fresh tears broke loose. "You've forgotten what to call me?" He looked down at me from above, like a king passing judgment. "Brother." I sobbed it out. My nails sank into the hard muscle of his arms. In the next moment, the world tilted. He flipped us. My long hair tumbled down around him. The ends of my hair brushed the iron ridges of his abdomen, and the shudder that ran through him was a thing of terrifying beauty. The Lycan King Damien held my hips. The control in his eyes was gone, ash-blown. "Seraphina. Don't stop." I whimpered. "Brother." "Brother…"
