At the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains are where my roots run through the hard ground in North Georgia. It’s where cotton used to flourish down long rows of fluffy white cotton.
Like most Southerners, I like fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, peach cobbler, and sweet tea. When we have company to come for a visit, and when you leave, you won’t leave without a “Y’all come back.”
One of our favorite things to do is sitting on the front porch, laid back in rocking chairs, or a swing, watching the hummingbirds flutter over the bright flowers with family and friends, while talking about the weather and laughing.
I taught middle school students, literature. I always told them they could go anywhere in the world through books. We read and discussed books like ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
