Chapter 02: Broken Bonds

1136 Words
I leaned against the doorframe, barely holding myself upright. The pain in my chest had dulled—at least the physical kind. But nothing could numb the searing agony tearing through my soul. Nothing could erase the image now burned into my memory. My best friend. My husband. Together. In our bed. Why? Goddess, why me? What did I ever do to deserve this betrayal? The torment surged in cruel waves, each one crashing harder than the last. I felt like I couldn’t breathe—like my heart had been ripped out, stomped on, and fed to the wolves. And then… he looked up. Josh. It took him a second. One. Eternal. Second. That moment where everything froze. Where time stopped just long enough for our eyes to meet—and the illusion of our life shattered forever. His body was still moving, still inside her, when his gaze locked onto mine. Missy’s ass was high in the air, her fingers gripping the sheets, moaning like she wasn’t screwing her best friend’s mate. The second he saw me, it was like panic detonated behind his eyes. “s**t—” he gasped, shoving her off him so fast, so violently, that her bare body slammed into the dresser. The crash echoed through the room. Missy crumpled awkwardly to the floor, her limbs tangled like some discarded toy, her ass still in the air and her shame finally catching up with her. Honestly? I would’ve pitied her—if she didn’t deserve every damn bruise. “Alyssa?” Josh’s voice was raw, broken, desperate. He grabbed at the nearest blanket, trying to hide his still-hard c**k, his chest heaving. “I—I didn’t know you were coming back.” I stood there, trembling. Not from weakness. From rage. “More like—what are you doing f*****g my best friend?” My voice cracked, laced with venom. “Or should I say... my sister?” Josh winced, like the word stung more than getting caught balls-deep in betrayal. “You said you were still investigating your father’s disappearance,” he muttered, wiping a hand down his face. “Why didn’t you tell me you were returning?” I blinked at him. Was he seriously blaming me right now? “I didn’t realize I needed to report to you before returning to my own Goddess-damned pack.” My voice was shaking. “And how the hell does that justify what I just walked in on?!” Josh scoffed. Scoffed. Like I was the unreasonable one. “You are the one who lied,” he said, folding his arms. “You wouldn’t have seen it if you hadn't snuck back early.” I stared at him. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “You’re unbelievable,” I whispered, rage thick in my throat. “You cheated. You betrayed my father. And for what? Now you’re trying to blame me for catching you?” Missy stirred from her pathetic heap on the floor, dragging the sheets up her bruised body. “Alyssa, please,” she croaked. “This... this isn’t what it looks like—” I laughed. Cold. Bitter. Hollow. “It is exactly what it looks like.” Josh’s face twisted, his tone turning cruel. “You’re a wolfless disappointment. All you ever cared about was your father. You’ve never been enough—not as a Luna, not as a mate.” My breath caught in my throat. “Oh, so now this is my fault?” I asked, voice quiet and deadly. “It’s my fault I was born wolfless? My fault I love my father? The same man who gave you your precious Alpha title?” He shrugged, expression emotionless. “The pack deserves a real Luna. Not a cursed one.” I laughed again, but this time, my hands were shaking. “I thought you were better than this. I thought... I trusted you.” My heart shattered all over again. “You used me. You climbed into my life, my bed, my soul—and pretended to love me just long enough to steal a crown.” His aura pulsed, his eyes darkening. But he didn’t move. He couldn’t. “You broke our bond,” I said, voice trembling. “You broke me. I hope the orgasm was worth it.” I turned and walked away, my tears blinding me. I didn’t know what hurt more—the betrayal, or the shame of having believed in him. The hall blurred around me as I stumbled forward, broken, numb. Until— “Alyssa?” a voice crooned. My stepmother. And the pack's doctor. Mira. And beside her... my cousin, silent and stone-faced. Mira’s lips curled in that sweet, poisonous smile. “Are you alright, dear?” My fists clenched. My breath hissed through my teeth. “Don’t you dare pretend to care,” I spat. “You knew. When I came to you about the bond pain, you said it was stress. You lied. You covered for him.” She blinked, her expression unreadable. “Alyssa please calm down.” I snapped. “Don’t. You. f*****g. Tell. Me. To. Calm. Down!” I roared, my voice echoing off the marble walls. “You all knew. You all protected that bastard while he f****d my sister behind my back!” “It had to happen,” she said softly. “The pack needs a Luna who can actually shift. Not a wolfless embarrassment.” And there it was. The truth. The mask finally slipped. Missy was her daughter. Of course this was what she wanted all along. Of course she wanted Missy to be Luna. That’s why she married my father—to put her daughter on the throne I was born for. “You used me,” I whispered, voice breaking. “Just like him.” I took a step forward. “Oh, f**k you, Mira!” I snapped. “I’m done being your puppet. I’m done pretending to be okay while you rip my life apart behind my back!” “Alyssa—” my cousin began. I turned on her, eyes blazing. “That’s Luna Alyssa,” I said, my voice sharp as a blade. “And you better remember that... while you’re rotting in the dungeon.” Mira’s face went pale. “You can’t do that,” she hissed. “You don’t have the authority—” I stepped closer, lips curled in fury. “I’m still your Luna. And the Goddess is my witness—this pack will burn before I let another traitor sit in my place.” And I meant every word. Because they thought I was weak. They thought I was nothing. But they forgot one thing. You can’t break what’s already been forged in fire.
