Chapter 40Malone, New York Dan Barton studied the three girls he'd shown to his guest bedroom. They couldn't be more than twelve years old. Two of the girls were stoic. They gave the room a once over, curled up together on the bed and appeared to fall asleep. Probably drugged. The other one was terrified. She was a tiny little thing, maybe even younger than twelve. Her eyes were laden with tears. She sat in the armchair, pulled her feet up under her and held herself tight with her arms crossed around her abdomen. She stared unblinking at the floor. It tore him apart and he wanted to comfort her, tell her it would be all right. No matter what the agents thought about him and his business, when it came to children and crime, his blood boiled.
