He Stole My Wedding, I Walked Away

Chapter 4

After class, I stayed at my desk. The next period was PE, and unfortunately, I had just gotten my period. My cramps were twisting inside me like a rope being pulled tight.

"What's wrong?" Ian came over and looked at me.

I clutched my stomach, shook my head, and rested it on the desk. The pain was unbearable, and my legs were trembling. He stood there for a moment, then turned and left. A few minutes later, a hot water bottle and a cup of brown sugar water appeared on my desk.

"You don't have to go to class," Ian said. "I already asked for you."

I was about to thank him, but he had already walked away. I hugged the hot water bottle to my stomach and soon drifted into a light sleep.

When I opened my eyes again, class was over and the cramps had eased. I slowly stood up and walked out of the classroom.

"June."

A voice I knew better than my own made me freeze.

"June, what's wrong?"

I turned around to see Edward walking toward me. We had met at an Olympiad competition, and from then on, we often discussed problems together.

I shook my head. "Nothing. Did you need something? If not, I'm leaving."

Edward looked stunned. He grabbed my wrist. "June, don't you have something to tell me? Or something to give me?"

I felt like I'd been struck dumb. For a split second, I actually thought Edward might have been reborn too. But I dismissed the idea instantly—impossible. He was busy marrying Lily back then; how could he have died?

"No. Let go. I need to go home."

But Edward was different today. He held my wrist tight. My cramps were making me irritable, and I was about to snap. I frowned, ready to yell at him, when a lazy voice cut through.

Ian sauntered over at his own pace. He reached out, grabbed Edward's hand, and pulled it off me.

With a smirk, he said, "What, Mr. Honor Student doesn't understand what my seatmate said? She said let go. Hard to follow that?"

I looked at Ian standing in front of me, and a warmth spread through my chest. 'Maybe he isn't as bad as I thought.'
