Back in the classroom, I looked at the cut on Ian's lip. "Why did you have to fight him?" Ian gave me a look like I was the i***t. "What? Feel bad for him?" I was speechless. "Your head's messed up. I have nothing to do with him, so why would I feel bad? But you—fighting means losing credits. You're already bad enough; do you want to get expelled?" Ian stared at me for a second, then suddenly grinned. "It's because you're so dumb you almost let that bastard take advantage of you. I'm your lifesaver, so how are you going to thank me?" For a moment, I saw real seriousness in his eyes. 'A life debt demands a life commitment. How about—you marry me someday?' But I quickly brushed off the thought. I reached for the iodine I'd grabbed from the infirmary and gently dabbed it on his wound.
