DONALD'S POV.
I opened the door of the Sage Mansion and perceived a familiar perfume that always pissed the hell out of me.
Charles.
I climbed the stairs to see a familiar figure walking towards the room where Whitney was kept, and I became instantly annoyed for some reason.
"What's going on here, Anna?"
Her eyes brightened in excitement on seeing me.
"I wanted you to meet Charles, he just got back from the states, and it's been a while since you last saw him...."
"Hello, Mr. Sage...."
I can't tell why, but I so dearly hated the guy's guts to a large extent.
"You're welcome...."
I simply said and walked past him clearly uninterested in sharing pleasantries.
If there was anything I wanted to do, it would be to go freshen up and prepare for the meeting with my dad.
Yes, his name is Reginald Sage. The Alpha Sage.
I didn't find meeting with him very interesting because he was always trying to find fault with everything I did, which was tiring.
I took a step forward when I saw someone fall like a flash of light and the fall was so loud and profound that some of my men had to run into the massive hallway.
Looking closely, I realized it was the Whitney girl.
What on earth did she come out of her room to do??
Who even left that room open?
It occurred to me that she could have planned to escape, and I furrowed my brows in anger.
How stupid could people be?
"Tie her up and take her to my bedroom, now!!!".
I walked briskly towards my room and slammed the door behind me.
The fact that I knew that she was on the run but wanted to escape from safety pissed me off the most.
Who does that?
"You will not believe it, boss. She fainted." Jordan said, carrying her into my room.
I liked having him around because he seemed to be very smart and sensitive.
"Is this how she would repay me for saving her silly a*s?"
"It's obvious she ran away from home...."
"I expected you to figure that out earlier, but you were too busy thinking of enemies..."
I saw him smirk.
"Who could've sent those guys?...." I asked, unbuttoning my shirt.
"I recognized the second guy as the son of Drake Mason..."
"That b****y ingrate."
"One of the three guys we held captive is actually his uncle, Drake's younger brother...."
"After all we did for them and their establishment. The investments, my time, my support and intellectual input....they still had the guts to try to steal from me."
"Typical of ingrates...."
I looked closely at the unconscious Whitney and sighed tiredly.
She had some more explanation to do.
Jordan walked out of my room and closed the door gently behind him.
When I got into the bathroom, I mixed the appropriate quantity of water and some oils into the bathtub, then pulling the towel off my waist, I slid in and let the warmth soothe my skin and soul.
If there was anything I needed, it would be to first calm myself down before meeting with dad. I knew having a discussion with him would be war as always.
The warmness of my bathroom made me so lost that I closed my eyes to let the water soothe me, but the door to my bathroom opened abruptly.
Unfortunately, I had some lather left on my face.
"The hell!!..." I yelled and tried to wash it off.
"I... I'm sorry, I'll go now..."
"Who the...what did you... Why did you?"
"Sorry.... I'm sorry... Oh my !"
I heard the door close abruptly before I could decide that it was Whitney.
Well, I had to make them take her to my room, because I couldn't trust that she wouldn't try to run away again.
I also didn't want her locked up like a prisoner.
In addition, I couldn't trust the guys to stay with her to avoid harassment and I didn't want to ask Anna to stay with her since she obviously disliked her.
I quickly got up, cleaned my body and put on my light green robe.
I saw her pacing to and fro like a kid.
Seeing her somehow eased my previous anger.
"What are you doing?"
She gasped in shock and shifted uncomfortably because I was only clad in my robe and my chest was almost bare.
"Why are you acting like a snail?"
She gasped again and held her chest dramatically.
"How dare you call me a snail? Do you know what a snail is? That's like a slow animal...."
"Is it because you haven't been beheaded yet for barging into my bathroom unannounced?"
"How can you..... I mean, I didn't know this was your room, nor did I know that it was your bathroom..."
"How would you know when you just keep fainting..."
"It's not my fault. I was told I have a weak heart, so any stress on my mind makes me faint...."
"Now enough of this aimless conversation. Why did you try running away from here?"
I said, walking slowly towards her.
She tightened her eyes and moved back as j proceeded.
"Please don't hurt me. I can explain..." I stopped on my track, and she opened her eyes and noticed I had stopped moving.
"Tell me..."
"I... I want to go home."
"Why? I thought you said you ran away from home. Whatever it is that made you leave would certainly be bad..."
"I know, that was what I thought too, but I don't know which is worse now. Staying here or being at home...."
"What do you mean by that statement?"
I saw her count something on her fingers like she was contemplating.
"I.... I'm running from home because some people are after me...."
I raised a brow, then pulled her to come seat with me.
"The thing is, my dad owes some money and if he doesn't pay up, the person might find and kill me"
"I see. How much do you think would be needed to clear the debt?"
"Like, ten million dollars?"
"That's so much money. How do you intend getting the money? You can't be on the run forever...."
"That's why I need to leave this place. I need to go out there and work hard so I can pay up..."
"And how many jobs do you think can pay you even one percent of that money in a short while?"
"I'll do any kind of job I can. I'll clean, I'll cook, I'll wash, I'll do just anything to save up enough and clear the debt...."
I looked at her like a zombie cause she actually sounded dumb and then burst into laughter...
"Do you know how much money we're talking about? That's in millions, Whitney.
All the things you stated you could do would make you money, but not so much."
I watched her brows arch in worry.
"What do I do?"
"Clearly, you're an invader in my home..."
She frowned.
"Your men literally dragged me into this place. I was just a passerby!"
"A passerby?" I scoffed and stood up.
"Or, can you loan me the money?" I gave her a ridiculous stare.
"What part of the planet did you come from to think I'd give you such an outrageous amount just like that?"
"I don't know. You look wealthy, unlike the others in my village".
"What exactly do you think you can give to pay me back?"
"I don't know. Please help me and I'll do anything in return"
I stared at her and smirked.
"You can do anything?"
"Yes sir...."
"I won't let anyone hurt you. But, you'll have to serve me for as long as I want...."
"Then the payment?"
I frowned.
"You don't expect me to give you money without you working first, do you?"
"I...I don't know I... I..."
I sat back in my seat when an idea occurred to me.
"I want you to work as my personal assistant. I see you are a good fighter. You would pass for my bodyguard..."
She was going to say something, but I raised a finger to make her keep shut.
"You would also have to sign an agreement with me that you will not attempt running until our deal is over. Remember that your life is in danger, but with me in the picture....you are now going to live in safety...."
She heaved a sigh and I chuckled in victory.
"I have eyes all over this city and beyond. Trying to run would do nothing but get you into more trouble....
And, let me warn you. I do not joke when it comes to business. If you try to mess with me, get ready to suffer"
I saw her shudder in fear as I made the last statement and I smirked in victory.
My plan was simple.
I needed a distraction away from Ava.
Dad wanted me to be married to her because she was also the heir to another very powerful mafia empire, so he wanted us to become one.
I on the other hand, was never interested in having a woman around me, plus Ava seemed to be very mischievous.
Whitney should be a good distraction.
"Have you got any questions?"
She nodded in the negative.
"Good".
WHITNEY'S POV.
It was clearly obvious that he knew nothing about me and did not want me dead.
I heaved a sigh when he talked about me living in safety from then on.
That was my ultimate desire, to live in safety away from my father and my enemies.
But now that no one knows who I truly am, it would be better to stay here anonymously.
Dad would never find me..... I would never be discovered.
Or so I thought until I met her.
