For seven days, I spent a few hours each morning looking for lungfish while Dinah took a dinghy and examined the tributaries, seeking the sharks she’d heard of. Sam joined me to begin with, but then he grew bored when all his flirting led nowhere—I was there to work—and I had to cut short my expedition. Sam decided to spend the next day with Dinah. “I’ll go with you today, sweetness.” Sam waggled his eyebrows. “Nothing like a little romantic outing on the river.” “Make sure you use plenty of insect repellant,” she advised him.
