THE ORPHAN GIRL.
After Isabella’s nightmare, she went down to the kitchen for breakfast, but her mind always drifted back to the nightmare.
“Mother... if only there was a way for me to change our past and bring you back,” Isabella mumbled under her breath.
She did not notice the whistling kettle and touched it with her bare hands.
“Ouch!” She screamed in pain and dropped the mug in her hand.
The mug fell on the floor and broke into millions of small pieces.
Just then, her stepmother, the brain behind her pain, Helene walked into the kitchen, her face contorted with rage.
Helene sneered at Isabella. ''You're so clumsy, Isabella. You break everything you touch".
Isabella’s eyes welled up with tears. ''I'm sorry, Stepmother. I didn't mean to."
Helene’s voice was mocking, ''Oh, poor little orphan Isabella. Always so pitiful. You have never done anything right your whole life!
David, her father, heard the commotion and entered the kitchen. ''Helene, that's enough. Leave her alone. You can see she is not in the right frame of mind. Why are you hell-bent on disturbing her? Leave her the F U C K alone”.
Helene scoffed, rolling her eyes. ''Oh, of course, David. Always defend your precious daughter. Always protecting her, this is not good.''
Isabella hugged her father, whispering "Dad, I'm sorry, I did not mean to break the mug... I was worried…very worried.”
David’s voice was soft: ''Don't worry, sweetie. I'm here for you. I understand that you did not do it on purpose. I know that you were not in the right frame of mind.”
Helene spoke, sarcastically. ''Oh, how touching. The little orphan and her daddy. The little useless orphan who can not do anything, she is always rushing to her daddy to help her!''
Isabella continued crying. ''Stepmother, please try and be a little nice, I am sorry... I did not do it on purpose.''
Helene laughed, a cold laughter. ''Nice to you? You're lucky I even let you live in my house."
David snapped at her firmly. ''Helene, stop this. Right now. Stop this! Stop it for Christ’s sake.''
Helene’s lips curled up into a smirk. ''Or what, David? Will you leave me? Please, you need me more than I need you. I own this house, your clothes, your food, I pay your bills, David.”
Isabella could only stand and watch helplessly, sobbing. “Please...please...please stop this.”
David watched helplessly. ''Isabella, I... I'm trying, sweetie. Please…stop crying... I will do something to help you...calm down hm? I am here for you.''
Helene’s voice came out cruelly. ''You're just like your mother, Isabella. Weak and useless. A very poor useless thing! I have been paying for your bills since your wretched mother left you''
Isabella’s eyes were bloodshot, her fist tightly clenched, so hard her knuckles turned white. “Don’t you dare! Don’t you dare talk to my mother? I am trying to be like my mother.”
Helene’s voice came out tauntingly. ''Oh, Isabella, you'll never be as good as your mother. She was a saint, and you're just a pathetic little orphan."
Isabella broke down, her wailing starting all over again. ''Mummy! Mummy! Do not say that against my mother.”
David lost his temper and snapped at Helene angrily. ''Helene, that's enough! You're upsetting her! I told you she was not in the right frame of mind!”
Helene shrugged. ''Oh, poor little Isabella. Can't handle the truth. She can not handle the truth, but that is it.”
Isabella’s sobbing came uncontrollably. ''Dad, Make her stop! Please! Make her stop this.''
David watched helplessly. Isabella, I...I can't. Just go to your room, sweetie. Go to your room and get some rest. You need it.”
Isabella’s words came between sobs. ''But Dad... I'm scared... Stepmother hates me... she hates me to the point where I am scared of mentioning her name.''
David's expression was soft and he spoke softly. ''I know, sweetie. But I'll try to make it better, I promise. Please give me a little more time. I will help you, work hard, and get you the life you deserve.''
Isabella ran out of the kitchen, her body shaking as she cried.
David turned to Helene, his eyes blazing with rage.
David spoke through gritted teeth. ''How can you be so cruel, Helene? You know she is not in the right frame of mind, anytime someone speaks about her mother. Why did you do that?”
Helene smirked. ''Oh, don't be so dramatic, David. I'm just preparing her for the real world where she will not be this pampered.”
David’s face showed he was disgusted. ''You call this preparing her? You're destroying her."
Helene shrugged her shoulders. ''She'll get over it. And if she doesn't...well, that's not my problem."
David was very furious. ''That's it, Helene. I've had enough of your cruelty. You're going to regret the way you've treated Isabella. You will stop treating my child the way you do! She deserves as much love as Ava does! Why are you doing this to her? Do not push me...do not push me to do anything drastic for my daughter’s sake.''
Helene’s face showed that she was holding back a laugh, but she could not take it anymore and she burst out laughing. ''Oh, David. You're so predictable. Do you think you can protect her from me? I have secrets, David. Secrets that will destroy your precious daughter's life forever.''
David’s face contorted with rage. ''What are you talking about, Helene?"
Helene sneered. ''You'll find out soon enough. But for now, let's just say... Isabella's not as innocent as she seems. Isabella is not mentally stable...ever since the death of her mother...ever since the death of her mother she has been acting weird...what do you think?''
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, and David's eyes narrowed.
Helene spoke, her voice menacing. ''That must be the detective I hired to investigate your past, David. I think it's time we uncovered the truth about you.''
