Chapter 9

So far having a job was way out of the question for me. Having Finn's baby was taking a toll on my body already. I was having massive morning sickness right now. I could hardly find food that would agree with the baby. All my normal favorite foods were grossing the baby out. I was pretty miserable.
My cousins were flying in for the wedding, My mother's older brother was flying in from New Jersey. He was from my grandfather's first marriage. I guess you would say Uncle Hank is my mother's half-brother. Hank is married to Noreen. And they have a daughter Riley whom is around my age. One year younger I think.
"I need to use the bathroom Sydney! They will be here any moment and you are still hogging the bathroom!" mother complains at me as she pounds on the door. She sure was not helping matters. I throw up again holding my hair back out of my face.
"Sydney? What is going on in there? Are you sick?" mother worries over me. She opens the bathroom door invading my privacy now. I groan. I finish up then flush the toilet. I wash my hands and face as she comes over to me staring at me. She feels my forehead.
"You are clammy. But no fever. You are as white as a ghost....Sydney are you having a baby?" mother demands to know. How do mothers do that? Seriously??
"Yes mother. I am having a baby" I manage to say before she engulfs me in a hug.
"Oh this is SO great! I always wanted to be a grandmother" she laughs happily as she hugs me.
"What is going on in here?" gram wants to know.
"Sydney and Finn are having a baby!" mother exclaims joyfully.
"I thought we agreed to wait to tell them!" Finn groans as he comes by the door before heading off to work.
"Mother guessed it. I did not tell her a thing" I promise Finn.
"So she does not know that the baby has a chance at being merfolk?" gram asks me. I groan. Mother's eyes grow wide with surprise.
"What?" mother gasps.
"Mother the baby is Finn's baby to. The baby is a part of him and a part of me. So there is a chance the baby could be a merman or a mermaid" I explain to her.
"Oh no, but Finn is human right now" protests mother.
"That will not mean the baby will not be a merfolk honey" gram warns.
"What will happen if the baby is a...a.. merbaby?" wonders mother.
"Crystal and his brother will raise the baby I suppose" I manage to say as tears come to me. Mother looks like she is about to cry for me. She hugs me again. So does Gram and Finn.
"We will all be here to support you baby" mother vows to me.
"How am I going to tell dad his grand baby might be a merbaby?" I wonder.
"Same way you told me" laughs mother. The doorbell rings. The guests were here.
"Uncle and Auntie are here" I say. We head out to the living room to answer the door. There stands Charlotte ready to take Finn to work.
"Sorry, was the pizza late again?" jokes Charlotte.
"No we were waiting for..."
"Hello, hello hello!" calls out Auntie Noreen. She and Uncle Hank come walking past Charlotte. They hug us all.
"Here is the lovely bride to be" says Auntie Noreen as she smiles at me.
"That would be me" I say smiling.
"Where is your fiancé?" she asks me.
"That would be me" Finn pipes up as he waves at them shyly. My aunt and uncle hug him as well.
"Where is Riley? I thought she was coming to my wedding?" I ask my Auntie.
"Hi there cousin! I would not miss the wedding of the year!" Riley says cheerfully. She comes in with her luggage. She hugs me. We used to be really close. Like sisters when we were younger. It was sure good to see her again.
"So this must be the famous Finn we have all heard so much about?" asks Riley as she points to Finn. I nod. She hugs Finn.
"It is great meeting you all. But I have to head into work. If you need anything anytime at all Sydney you call me right away okay?" he worries over me as he touches my arm looking at me. I nod.
"I will be fine" I promise him. He leans in and kisses my cheek.
"I love you. Hope you have fun today" he whispers in my ear. I grin.
"I love you to" I promise as he hugs me once more.
"See you later Syd" says Charlotte.
"Come by later so you can get to know my cousin Riley. She is another bridesmaid" I tell her. Charlotte nods before leaving with Finn to work.
"Handsome fiancé. You have good taste" Riley jokes to me. I nod.
"He sure is. I am a lucky lady" I tell her. It was easy to tell my mother that Finn's family were merfolk. It was going to be another story telling the rest of the family about the wedding and his family. Oh boy.
"So how did you meet?" Riley asks me as my mother chats with my aunt.
"At the beach" I tell her. "I was drowning. He rescued me" I brag.
"Oh how romantic" she sighs dreamily.
"It really was not that romantic. After was" I giggle.
"You never were good at swimming. Remember when you nearly drowned at our pool?" she mentions.
"All too clearly" I sigh. "I am so glad you are all here for my big day. I can't wait for you all to meet Finn's family to"
"I can't wait either" says Riley.
"Any new men in your life? Will we be hearing wedding bells in your future?" I ask her. She shakes her head no.
"Not for me sadly" she laughs.
"Maybe you will meet someone at my wedding" I tell her. She blushes.
"Maybe. If Finn has a single brother" she jokes.
"Actually he does" I tell her.
"What is he like?" she asks me.
"Hudson? He love the ocean. The beach kind of guy" I try to explain.
"So he is a surfer type" she asks me.
"I guess you could say he is" I giggle. She had no idea.
"I would be interested in meeting him. But it would be hard to have a long distance relationship" she says looking thoughtful.
"What should we do for lunch everyone?" asks my mother.
"Bar-be-que for me please!" begs my uncle. "I have been daydreaming about it for weeks!"
"We can do that" agrees gram.
"It is good to have my family here for this time" I tell Riley. She smiles as she hugs me.
"It is good to be here" she says smiling at me brightly.
