CHAPTER 20Just then a woman coming out of St. Michael’s grabbed my arm. “My dear! I’m so glad to see you! Have you been to the exhibit at St. Philip’s? My dear, it’s simply enchanting. How long will you be here? You must come in this afternoon for tea!”
Her face was vaguely familiar, but who she was or where I’d met her I hadn’t an idea and still haven’t. I only know that by the time I’d got loose Doctor John had disappeared. I dashed in front of a car making a right turn on a red light, heard a Southern gentleman swear at a Northern lady, and went as quickly as I could without actually running to the Court House corner and across Meeting Street, still against the red light, my heart pounding.
