A Clash Between Giants

1754 Words
The following day, the two were awoken by a loud commotion from outside of their window. The first thing Lisa did was grab her phone to check the hour. “7 AM? Who is shouting so early in the morning?” she groaned. Hoping it would stop soon, Lisa stayed on her bed and closed her ears with her pillow. But since the commotion only became louder, Lisa forced herself to stand up from her bed and walked up to the window to see what was going on. On the other hand, Naomi was still on her bed, rubbing both of her eyes as she just woke up. “Is there something wrong?” she asked. “I’m... not sure.” Through the window, Lisa could see the other students crowding around, creating a circle. Inside of said circle were four students, standing across from Fox and a little girl. Lisa instantly recognized the little girl, thanks to the protective google on her forehead and oversized lab coat. It was Clara, the mechanic Lisa met just the day before.  Clara was hiding behind Fox while clutching onto his coat tightly. Just as Naomi arrived at the window to see, Lisa already rushed out of their room and went downstairs. Naomi only needed a glance at the situation to know it was something serious and immediately rushed out to catch up with Lisa. Luckily for the two, a lot of the other students didn’t bother changing their clothes either. Instead, they were all running down the stairs to see what was going to happen.   As Lisa and Naomi approached the crowd, they started to hear the words more clearly. “-Aren’t you a strong girl hiding behind Fox?” “If you have something to say to us, say it directly!” Among the crowds, Lisa noticed Rhon and Lirya. They looked anxious about what was going on. “What’s going on?” Lisa asked the two as soon as she got close enough. Considering that the girl with Fox was Clara, Lisa assumed the four students were trying to harass her. Or maybe there was something else since almost everyone nearby was keen on watching them fight, including the android maid. “They are the heirs I told you about yesterday. This is not the first time they have a confrontation with Fox, and certainly not the last. Fox is the few who are brave enough to stand up and fight them, and actually, come out victorious,” Rhon answered. “But isn’t it dangerous? I mean, he also needs to protect Clara.” “It’s better if you see it for yourself. I mean, there’s a reason why Fox is kind of feared by almost everyone in the academy. I’m more worried about Fox doing something to them. This is involving Clara, after all. And he is very protective of her.” “Really?” Noami asked, and Rhon nodded vigorously. As they listened to Rhon, the banter between the four heirs and Fox was heating up. Quite literally for one of the heirs with red hair and eyes, since his hair turned into fire and his fists were enveloped with flame. The other heir gave the red heir some room to do his thing. “Fireball!” he shouted as he punched forward. The flame around his fist had formed a fireball, and he sent it flying toward Fox when he launched his fist. The students near the heir instantly stepped back to avoid getting burned while Clara cowered behind Fox. For a second, Lisa thought Fox wouldn’t do anything, as he made no move whatsoever as the fireball flew toward him. Then, only at the last second, Fox raised his left palm. The ball of flame touched Fox’s left palm and was immediately absorbed into his palm, leaving no trace behind. His dark glove was untouched by the fire despite what everyone saw. “I told you, didn’t I? Students are f*******n to use their power to harm others unless it was necessary. But also, telling what you are going to use is stupid; you really need to stop that. It’s getting old,” Fox finally spoke up. “D-damn you!” another student with green hair and eyes unsheathed the katana on his back. Within the blink of an eye, he disappeared from his spot with a loud whizzing sound. He reappeared right in front of Fox, who managed to catch his katana. Nobody saw him move from his place, let alone when he swung his sword at Fox. Everyone could only see the aftermath. The blade didn’t even leave a scratch on his glove. “Another rule of the academy, you might have the license, but you are not allowed to use any kind of weapons unless it was necessary. Clearly, you two still need me to remind you all the time,” Fox pushed the green-haired heir back to the group with his other hand. The heir with brown hair and eyes caught him with a giant hand made out of soft dirt. It was clear that the heirs got even more pissed. Naomi could see Clara visibly trying to pull Fox away from the fight. Like she didn’t want it. But Fox stood his ground. He wouldn’t let anyone do as they wished toward Clara or anyone in the academy, not when he was still alive and around. “Don’t you four have something better to do right now?” Fox crossed his arms in front of his chest. Whether it was to taunt the heirs or were simply reminders, it was unclear. But it was clear that the heirs didn’t like it one bit.   The heirs were going to charge again at Fox when they realized they had attracted way too much attention toward themselves. “We will see you again, bastard! Mark my word, one day, we are going to prove our superiority over you,” the one with red hair shouted before the group left the premises. With the conflict resolved anti-climatically, the crowd dispersed, and Naomi approached Fox with the other three. “Fox! Are you okay?” Lisa asked, worried. “Ah, Lisa. Of course, don’t worry about it. I apologize if I woke you and the others up,” he said with a bit of a bow. “I-It’s alright. What matters is that you are safe.” “Well, what matters even more, is for you two to get ready and head to Protector HQ. Nova is waiting for you two there. I will catch up as soon as I get Clara back to her workshop. So don’t wait for me,” Fox said before putting Clara up on his back and walked away. After Fox was far enough, Lisa turned her attention to Rhon. “Rhon, what is really going on between Fox and Clara?” Lisa asked.   “Honestly? I don’t know. As far as I know, the two are not related. Maybe they bonded after the incident.” “Incident?” “Yeah, but it’s highly classified. People said it happened right here in Academy ground, but no one saw it. No witness at all.” “Ah, I heard about it from Nova!” Naomi chimed in excitedly. “You do?!” both Rhon and Lisa asked at the same time, then Rhon tried to drill her further. “What do you get from him? Is it an attack? Oh! Or-“ “W-Well, only that there was an incident involving the two….” she said with an embarrassed grin. “And here I thought you have something new….” Rhon said while sighing, ”Oh well. Didn’t Fox tell you two to go to the Protector’s HQ? So you two should head there now.”   Meanwhile, at the Protector HQ, Nova watched everything that happened through the fortune ball of The Seer. He could only sigh at the whole event. The four heirs were getting out of control just because they were powerful and had significant influences. If anyone tried to report them, they would most likely end up in the hospital for weeks. Nova felt lucky that Fox was around since the principal wasn’t. At least he could stop them. Nova rubbed the bridge of his nose. His list of problems was just getting longer each passing day, and the heir problem had been a thorn on his side for so long it was getting annoying. “We must do something. We can’t keep relying on Fox,” The Seer said as she changed the view on her fortune ball into the whole school. In contrast to her nickname, she was not dressed like a paranormal—just the same cloak as the other Protectors, with her long pale white hair and cerulean blue eyes. “No, we MUST rely on Fox. I can’t risk anyone else’s life to stop them. And the principal is also too busy to handle such a small matter.” “This is no small matter. No students should be allowed to be this free. Maybe we should just report them to their clans.” Nova spat out his coffee in shock. “I told you before. Reporting the heirs to their respective parents most likely will only bring trouble since they believe in their child more than this school. But, even if they do, you know their stance on the academies, especially with the principal and Fox. So why are they here? Well, why else but to prove that the four are superior in ways that matter. Which is using their power and fighting,” he explained as he wiped the coffee from his mouth. “You are right….” The Seer didn’t like the way they handled this. There must be another way, something to teach the heirs their place. “AH!” The Seer suddenly clamped her hand, surprising Nova enough to make him spit out his coffee once again. Before Nova could complain, The Seer explained her plan, the way to stop the heirs’ bad attitude once and for all.
