Chapter 4

Amelia's POV: The loud ringing of my phone almost got me deaf. “OMG Amy, there's a bachelorette party in town,” Karen chimed as I picked up the call. “Wow, it's great”, I replied, getting a little bit confused as to why she was telling me. “Yes, isn't it? "There'll be lots of handsome and rich men at the party”, Karen said with excitement radiating from her voice even without seeing her right now. I know she's lying on her bed with a broad smile on her face. “Karen, I know where you're trying to get to, but I don't think I'm going to come anyway. “No,” she said, "why Karen? I'm very serious, just as you said earlier, there are going to be rich people at the party. That means the party is definitely for the rich only and, besides, have you forgotten that I do not fit into such a party? “That is an unnecessary excuse for crying out loud Amy, don't even go there because you're coming to that party tonight.” So get ready. I want to see you at my place at 5:00 pm so that we can get ready. “Karen!!” “And no more but” see you when you're here." After that, she ended the call. "As I stepped out of the taxi and into Karen's house, the warm sunlight danced across her heart-warming smile. Her short blonde hair framed her heart-shaped face, and her hazel eyes sparkled with excitement. I felt a familiar pang of insecurity as I compared my own slender frame to her curves." My mom's hurtful words still linger in my mind: "You're ugly and thin, and no man will look at you." I also remember when she cut my hair, accusing me of taking Jessica's beauty. I was 12 then, but the painful memory is still fresh on me. I quickly let that aside as I followed Karen inside. Just as I entered the room, the scent of vanilla and strawberry enveloped me, the ray of sunlight giving the room a magnificent view from the outside. Everything about her is so lovely. After searching for clothes, Karen handed me a red dress. "Try this on." "Karen!!..it's too revealing." She chuckled. "What's wrong with it? Amy, this dress is perfect for the party. Trust me, you're going to love it." I hesitated, but her continuous nagging won me over. "Okay, fine. I'll wear it." After we were done getting ready. I stared at my reflection, speechless. I couldn't recognize myself. "Oh my gosh, Amy, you look stunning!" Karen exclaimed. I blushed, feeling grateful for Karen's kindness. "Thanks, Karen.” I can't believe I'm staring at myself. You have to believe now Amy looks at how gorgeous you look in that dress. I think you should keep wearing red. “Karen," I said blushing, "You look amazing too." I pointed at the navy blue dress she was wearing. Karen smiles at me. C'mon "Let's go, we're running out of time." She said while we both rushed outside. We are finally here. Karen spoke as we both came out of her car. The beauty of the place was so captivating that I could not hear what she was saying. I looked around and admired how gorgeous the building was. It has a golden light from the outside, giving it a richer look. A water fountain sat in the center of the white brick-style concrete. OMG!! Isn't this place fabulous? Karen chims. it is, I replied, as we both walked to the large door. My jaw immediately hit the floor. Inside the large room was a marble crystal chandelier hanging down in its middle, illuminating the whole place. The people inside were of high class and reputation their dresses matching the vibes of the party. But the sudden stare of the people around made me feel uncomfortable. Why are they staring at us? I asked Karen as I felt nervous. C'mon Amy they're probably staring at your beauty or did I forget to tell you that you look breathtaking? Thank you Karen. I whispered to her while she smiled back at me. The people continued what they were doing before, discussing business, while some were taking pictures. I and Karen went to join others on the dance floor. Just as we were dancing to the music, Karen's phone rang, leaving me alone on the dance floor. Leaving the dance floor to grab a drink, I couldn't help but feel someone staring at me. On the verge of doubting myself, I turned back to check, my eyes locked with the most beautiful greenish eyes I've ever seen. His sudden approach towards me, made my heart skip a bit. “What is a beautiful lady doing here all alone? He asked, his deep voice vibrating as it sent shivers down my spine. I was lost in his dark green eyes, wondering how someone could look so captivating. His chiseled jawline, pointed nose, and luscious lips coupled with the way he dressed made my heart coil. The charming smile on his face indicated that he had caught me checking him out. “ Are you done checking me out, pretty lady?” he asked, as his eyes sparkled with amusement. My cheeks flush red from the embarrassment as I avoided eye contact, my hands playing with my drink. “I'm so sorry about that,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “And, by the way, you don't have to call me pretty lady.” he chuckled, his laughter low and husky. “So what should I call you then?” He asked, placing his hands in his pocket, his eyes never leaving mine. “Amelia,” I replied, gulping down the remaining drink, as I tried to compose myself. “You really have a nice name,” he said, smiling, as his lips twitched to the corner. I couldn't help but notice the way his eyes seemed to see right through me. “Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Alex Walton. And I believe You must have heard a lot about me,” he said, with confidence. My heart skipped a bit, I tried to remember where I'd heard the name as I stared at his chiseled features. “Wow, nice to meet you Mr. Alex,” I replied. I don't know why, but I felt really comfortable talking to him, despite being a blushing mess. Who wouldn't be drawn to a handsome guy, after all?. He took out his hand, taking mine, and placing a soft lingering kiss on it making my heart flutter. His continuous gaze on me made me want to doubt my Moms poor comment about my appearance for once. “So tell me, what are you doing here all alone?” He asked, putting his hand back inside his pocket. “Well I came here with a friend, and she just went out now to take a call.” I replied. Just then, Karen approached us, her eyes wide with excitement. “Who do we have here, Amelia?” She asked. “OMG” “Are you Mr Walton, like Alex Walton,” Karen asks, her cheeks turning red, as I tried to keep my laugh. “Yes, and you must be Amelia's friend," he replied with a broadening smile. Yes! Am her best friend. “Wow, so can I borrow your friend for a date?” No need to ask Mr Alex, she's always available. She said giggling. My face turned bright red as I whispered to Karen, “Karen, stop,” But she kept saying a lot of things to Alex, leaving me mortified. As the party continued, I found myself lost in Alex's conversation. I couldn't believe how easy it was talking to him, how much we had in common. He was really friendly.
