Chapter 2

837 Words
I looked at Larenzo in dismay., wondering why he was there. He is his usual calm self, even slightly smile looked at me. But I am not sure whether he heard my conversation with Ward. Before I could decide how to react, Larenzo walked quickly toward us. I wanted to greet him civilly, but his gaze scan and brush past me. At the moment, air around seemed to be frozen. I looked at him in his haute couture suit and expensive watch on his wrist, at odds with the casual atmosphere of the pub, as if he had come to a posh dinner party. Ward seemed stunned, too. He stared at me, choking back what he had just said. Ward's expression became flustered and his eyes began to wander. I still wanted to ask what happened next, but before I could say anything, he said anxiously like if you stay here a second longer, he will mysteriously disappear. “Sorry, Yvette. I really must be off now.” He left the pub in a hurry, as if a wild animal were chasing him. Before I knew what was going on, I saw Larenzo swirling his glass given in Scotch toward me and looking in the direction Ward had left. "It's ungentlemanly to leave a girl alone in a pub, isn't it?" At this time I have also slightly tipsy, resting my head on the soft sofa, narrowing my eyes stared at him, absently asked him "what about you?" “me?” "You wouldn't hesitate to give up on me, just like everyone else. I am in your eyes like a rusty screw, and then can be shrew away for no reason. But now I seem to have gotten used to it, beause I was the one who was always abandoned since childhood.” He was silent for a long time, his eyes like an abyss of unending night. This reminds me of the first time I met him, he also stared at me in a superior attitude, like an unattainable ice peak. Then slowly said, "since you came here, forget everything that has happened in past. Don't betray me, and don't think about leaving." But then he seemed to lose his wits and let out a slow breath. Just as he started to speak, I saw a girl with a good creature, full-breasted and elegant dress come in with a smile. She put her arm around Larenzo, looked up at him and coquettish tone, “Have you been waiting long? I was late for our date because I was dressed up particularly.” Larenzo stroked her head, kissed her gently on the forehead and smiled faintly. "No, not for a long time. Gloria, you look beautiful today." Gloria turned her head to look at me scornfully, then looked me over up and down. I was a little uncomfortable with the feeling of being looked at all over and sitting unnaturally because of my own hidden emotions. Still keep a smile, she turned to ask Larenzo "Larenzo, who is she?" Larenzo almost without thinking. “Yvette. My subordinates." I stood up groggily and held out my hand “Hi, my name is Yvette.” Gloria ignored my move, as if she was still thinking about my relationship with Larenzo. She frowned and curled her lip. "Subordinate... I don't seem to have seen you before." "Yes, I'm only an insignificant employee, that's why you haven't seen me." She remained skeptical, but soon regained her smile. She pulled Larenzo out of the pub and got into a Rolls-Royce that was parked on the side of the road, looking vibrant and energetic. I watched everything quietly through the glass window, feeling that what I was seeing was not real. Then I saw her roll down the window and wave at me with a contemptuous smile. My gaze passed her and landed on Larenzo, who was just staring straight ahead without any extra expression. At this point, I remembered the unfinished Ward’s words, and I still wanted to seek the answer out of curiosity. So I dialed his number, and to my surprise, he answered very quickly. "Hey, I just wanted to know what Larenzo said to you on one of the nights," I said. Actually, this phone call was not necessary from a rational point of view, but my emotions told me that I had to know what had happened. I tightly gripped my phone and listened carefully to his answer. "He threatened to make me leave you, you know, he could quietly put an end to me," he said. I took a deep breath, my hand shaking so much that I almost didn't hold the phone. Then sunk down on the sofa, said weakily, "Why did you choose to tell me now?" Ward to think for a moment, then said, "I am just heard that he is engaged, and I thought he likes you before, so has been didn't tell you. Now it looks like that's not going to happen."
