Chapter 10: A Toast to New Beginnings**

828 Words
The soft glow of dawn broke through the curtains of my apartment, casting a warm light that danced across the neatly arranged beauty products I had meticulously curated for my launch. It was a new day — one filled with the exhilarating joy of success. I could hardly believe that last night’s event had gone off without a hitch. The beauty line I had poured my heart and soul into was finally out in the world, and the buzz surrounding it was electric. As I made my way to the company headquarters, my heart fluttered with anticipation. The streets were bustling with early-morning energy, but all I could think about was how I would see my team, how each of us had contributed to this monumental success, and how my design dreams had finally blossomed into reality. My mind was racing with ideas for future launches and possibilities. But as I approached the building, a flutter of nerves crept in — it wasn't just the excitement of success; it was the thought of Liam. Liam, with his easy smile and the way he effortlessly captured beauty through his lens, had changed everything. I had avoided him for the most part, keeping our interactions professional, but every moment we shared felt charged with unspoken feelings. I reminded myself of my resolve: keep my distance. Despite my heart's yearning, I had to focus on my work. Pushing the heavy glass doors open, I was greeted with an unexpected burst of sound. A cork popped, and champagne erupted from a bottle, showering the entrance in a cascade of bubbles and laughter. Max, my ever-enthusiastic assistant, stood at the ready, an impish grin plastered across his face. “Congratulations! This calls for a celebration, right?” he declared, eyes sparkling with delight. “Max!” I laughed, unable to suppress a smile. “You scared me half to death!” He stepped forward, champagne flute in hand. “You deserve this! A toast to the launch of your dream and the start of something beautiful!” I took a glass, the cool crystal contrasting with my warm hand. The cheerfulness of the moment enveloped me, and I let myself bask in the joy of my team's accomplishment. “To new beginnings!” I echoed, clinking my glass against his. As the day unfolded, I savored every moment, from the excited chatter of my team to the vibrant energy that filled our workspace. Max flitted around like a butterfly, ensuring everyone was well taken care of, while I settled into a comfortable rhythm, organizing tasks and planning our next steps. But as the clock ticked toward noon, I felt a familiar tension settle over me. Liam was due to arrive any moment now. My heart raced, and I fought against the urge to peek out the window. Instead, I focused on my work, hoping that by keeping my head down, I could navigate the day without an encounter. Just then, the door swung open, and there he stood. Liam walked in, a burst of sunshine with tousled hair and a camera slung casually over one shoulder. His presence lit up the room, and I felt my heart leap despite my best efforts to remain composed. “Good morning, everyone!” he called out, his voice warm and inviting. My breath caught, and I felt an involuntary smile spread across my face. “I’m here to capture all this excitement! Are you ready?” “Always!” Max responded, essentially bouncing on his feet. I caught Liam’s gaze, and for a brief moment, the world around us melted away. Those deep, expressive eyes seemed to hold a million unspoken words, a million possibilities. But just as quickly, I turned my attention back to my work, reminding myself of my resolve. The day went on, filled with laughter and the click of cameras capturing our joy. I found myself stealing glances at Liam throughout the afternoon, the way he moved with such creative ease and how he effortlessly encouraged everyone in the room to smile. Each interaction sent a ripple of warmth through me, making my resolve waver. “Hey, can you help me with this?” he asked, pulling me away from my desk. His tone was casual, but I felt the weight of the moment. “Sure,” I replied, trying to keep my tone light and breezy. “What do you need?” He led me to a nearby corner of the office where he had set up a small backdrop for photos. “I want to get some candid shots of the team celebrating. Can you direct them?” Before I could respond, he leaned in a little closer, the scent of his cologne wrapping around me like a warm hug. “I think you can help bring out their best, you know?” I swallowed hard, feeling the spark between us grow stronger. “Okay, I can do that.”
