The air buzzed with excitement as the evening’s festivities reached their peak. Lisa's beauty launch was a roaring success. The laughter of guests mingled with the click of cameras, capturing every moment of the evening’s glamour. I took a deep breath, fighting to keep my composure amid the chaos, but my stomach churned as I caught sight of Max in the corner of the room, chatting animatedly with a group of influencers. "Can you believe how well everything turned out?" Lisa exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with joy. "Yeah, it’s great," I replied distractedly, my gaze drifting back to where Max stood, his warm smile captivating everyone around him. “But can you excuse me for a moment?” Before Lisa could respond, I wove through the crowd, my heart pounding in my chest. I knew I had to confront Max about this new photographer he'd hired. Liam. The name alone made my heart skip a bit. I spotted him—tall, brooding, and undeniably handsome , Liam stood just a few feet away, camera slung over his shoulder like a badge of honor. He was engrossed in capturing the essence of the night, but I couldn’t ignore the way he kept glancing at me, a sly smile playing on his lips. It was captivating. “Max!” I called, my voice sharper than I intended. He turned, surprised, his expression shifting from joy to apprehension as he took in my tone. “Hey! Everything okay?” “Not really,” I said, leaning closer so I could speak without anyone else hearing. “What were you thinking? Hiring him as our new photographer?” Max frowned, confusion etched across his features. “Liam's amazing, and he’s perfect for the brand. You saw his work during the gallery opening!” “Exactly! That’s the problem.” My voice lowered, my frustration bubbling until I couldn’t contain it. “You know how distracted I was after seeing him there—how could you hire someone who’s such a… a distraction?” “Distraction?” Max’s brow furrowed, and he stepped closer, the crowd fading into the background. “You can’t be serious. You think I hired him just to get under your skin?” “I think you’re being careless!” I snapped, my heart racing. “He’s not just some random photographer, Max. He is someone who woke up something inside me that i cant explain. —how will i handle seeing him and you… you’re just letting it happen!” He took a step back, clearly taken aback by the intensity of my words. “You think I’d jeopardize everything we’ve built? Our launch. for what? A guy who takes photos?” “It's not just about the photos!” I felt the heat rising in my cheeks, a mixture of anger and something else.... I just—” I stammered, caught off guard by his question. “I’m worried about how this will affect us, Max. Can’t you see that?” He sighed, his frustration mingling with understanding as he searched my eyes. “Look, I’m not going to pretend like I don’t see the tension between you two. I know it’s complicated. But I hired Liam because of his talent. If you can’t separate that from your feelings—” “Feelings?” I interrupted, my heart racing as I took a tentative step closer. “You think this is just about feelings?” “Yes,” he said, his voice firm yet strained. “No.” I shook my head, fighting the urge to reach out and grab his arm. “This is about more than that, Max can’t you see that?” A silence settled between us, heavy and charged. I could hear the laughter and music in the background, but it felt miles away. The world faded, leaving just Max and me, caught in this storm of uncertainty. “Maybe I didn’t consider how it would feel for you,” he finally admitted, his voice softer now. “But you need to trust me, Lisa.. I searched his eyes, the sincerity there cutting through the haze of my anger. “Then promise me you’ll reconsider,” I urged, my breath hitching. “Promise me that you won’t let Liam be a part of this.” “Alright,” he said, a reluctant acceptance in his tone. But as he spoke, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this confrontation was just the beginning. Just then, Liam stepped into our line of sight, a camera poised in his hands, his eyes glinting with mischief. “Hey, are you two done arguing? I need a shot of the dynamic duo!” The moment was shattered. Max and I locked eyes, the tension unresolved, but now there was a new threat lurking amidst the celebration. I could feel it in the air, heavy and suffocating. As Liam flashed a smile, I couldn’t help but wonder how much further this confrontation would push me—and what it would mean for us in the days to come.
