### Chapter 5: Web of Deception The palace corridors felt colder and more foreboding as Alexander and Neferu returned from the border skirmish. The initial victory against the Hyksos was bittersweet, marred by the knowledge that greater threats loomed on the horizon. They made their way to the private council chambers to discuss their next steps. As they entered, Lord Akhom was already there, flanked by a few other nobles.
