Their eyes met, but Ethan showed no embarrassment at being caught. Instead, he smiled, revealing two rows of pearly white teeth. "Thanks for your help."
Daisy was momentarily dazzled by his smile. Honestly, she had never seen a man who could smile so handsomely.
He was like a devil!
As Daisy pondered this, she touched her nose, worried that she might start bleeding from the sight of him.
After finally getting Ethan settled on the bed, Daisy stood at the bedside, hands on her hips, catching her breath. She noticed him frowning as he examined himself, sniffing disdainfully.
"Since you can't bathe at the moment, how about I get some water and give you a sponge bath? It's really hot today," Daisy suggested hesitantly.
Ethan looked at her calmly and sighed. "Thank you, if it's not too much trouble..."
Before he could finish, Daisy had already dashed into the bathroom.
A sponge bath!
Daisy felt like her nose was about to bleed.
In this room, alone with a man she had only known for less than 48 hours, she was about to give him a sponge bath!
Daisy reassured herself. She couldn't think of him as a man. Just think of him as the neighbor's dog.
Giving him a sponge bath would be like washing a dog.
Despite her efforts to keep her thoughts pure, she couldn't help but notice his well-defined muscles and the eight-pack abs beneath his chest. The various scrapes and bruises only added to his rugged charm.
Daisy quickly wiped him down and bolted from the room, barely taking the time to dispose of the water.
She stood by the window, letting the breeze cool her flushed face, feeling like she might spontaneously combust.
Her phone rang, displaying a call from her colleague, Nina Farley.
"Daisy, why didn't you come to work today? Mr. Thompson is furious!"
Daisy was taken aback. She had been so preoccupied that she had forgotten to request leave.
"I had an emergency. Could you please ask Mr. Thompson for a few days off on my behalf?"
Nina agreed.
After hanging up, Daisy reluctantly returned to the room to clean up the water on the floor.
A nurse arrived with the lunch cart and set the meal on the table.
Ethan looked at the food in front of him, a piece of luncheon meat and a small pat of butter on bread. Instead of feeling hungry, his stomach churned.
"What's wrong? Eat up," Daisy urged, not understanding his hesitation.
Ethan didn't move.
"How will you recover if you don't eat?" Daisy pressed, growing impatient.
He weakly shook his head.
Seeing no other option, Daisy rushed home and cooked for him that evening.
She prepared a vegetable salad, tomato pasta, and warm milk.
"Is this more to your liking? You need to eat more to recover faster."
She had a simple plan. To get him well soon so she could be free of her guilt and obligations.
As Ethan tasted the simple yet delicious food, he gazed at her thoughtfully.
Daisy had no idea that this meal only strengthened Ethan's resolve to stay with her.
In the following days, she cooked various dishes for him, hoping to speed up his recovery and ease her guilt over her reckless driving.
However, what troubled Daisy more was the increasingly peculiar looks from the nurses.
Especially when they walked in during one of those awkward moments of her helping him out of the bathroom...
Another car accident patient was admitted to their double room. Compared to Ethan, his injuries were much worse, and he cried out in pain every night.
One night, Ethan, unable to bear it any longer, spoke to Daisy, "I can't stay here any longer. I haven't slept a wink with him here. I have nowhere to go. Can I stay at your place to recover?"
Ethan's half-lidded eyes, trembling lashes, and the dark circles under his eyes added a touch of melancholy to his handsome face. Daisy found herself agreeing almost instinctively.
It wasn't until they were at her doorstep that Daisy realized she had let a virtually unknown man into her home.
But then she thought about his injuries and reassured herself that he would leave once he was better!
It wasn't until later that Daisy realized how naive she was.
Ethan, the man before her, was no helpless lamb. He was a cunning and fierce wolf!
Ethan glanced around her modest apartment, which was at least clean and warmly decorated. He could tolerate it. He walked to the only bed and lay down. "Daisy, I'm a bit hungry."
Daisy automatically turned towards the kitchen. As she entered, it hit her... Why was he sleeping in her bed?!
"Hey, get up! You sleep on the couch!" Daisy tried to pull him up, but Ethan, deprived of sleep, was irritable. He suddenly grabbed her and pulled her down beside him.
Daisy lost her balance and fell next to him, their faces inches apart, his breath hot on her skin. She could count every one of his eyelashes.
His face was slightly pale, the dark circles under his eyes pronounced. He mumbled something that sounded suspiciously like a whine.
He had amnesia. He was injured. He lay defenseless on her bed!
She could do anything to him!
It was as if a devil whispered in her ear, making her heartbeat erratic. Her mind was filled with filthy thoughts that could land her in jail. So filthy that she couldn't resist slapping herself.
The sound echoed, bringing tears to her eyes.
She scrambled off the bed without looking back, leaving the room.
Fine, he was a patient who hadn't slept well. She wouldn't hold it against him. She would just change the sheets and covers after he left.
Daisy didn't see the playful smile on Ethan's lips as she exited the room.
