Ethan showed no hint of shame. "I am a man, an injured man. Remember how I got all these injuries?"
"You!!" Daisy could hardly believe it. Was this really the gentle, agreeable man from a few days ago? How had he become so shameless overnight?
Daisy couldn't help but wonder if he had been pretending before and now was showing his true colors.
"I don't care. This is my bed, and I have to sleep in it!"
Ethan scooted over, patting the space next to him. "Then why don't we sleep together? There's plenty of room."
He looked at her with those sincere blue eyes, as if genuinely proposing a good solution.
"No way!" She stomped her foot, her face turning red with anger.
Dealing with a man with no sense of propriety, Daisy felt utterly defeated. Her inner voice scolded her again. Served you right for being so infatuated and gullible!
She took a deep breath, telling herself to endure it. Just a few more days until he could at least take care of himself, and then she would kick him out!
Daisy glared at him, grabbed a blanket, and resignedly headed to the sofa.
Ethan called after her, seemingly concerned, "Daisy, are you sure you don't want to sleep in the bed? It's OK to me, really."
"It's not OK to me!" Daisy snapped, pointing a finger at him. "You listen up! While you're staying here, don't get any funny ideas. I'm a black belt in Taekwondo!"
Ethan propped his head on his arm, giving her a look of amused affection, like a master indulging a mischievous kitten.
Daisy shivered, her heart pounding in her chest, her face heating up.
Her mind filled with thoughts that could get her arrested!
She quickly climbed onto the sofa, wrapping herself tightly in the blanket, and checked to make sure she wasn't having a nosebleed.
Her heart pounded for a long time before she realized that...
Was he doing this on purpose? He had to be doing it on purpose!
Having slept too much during the day, Ethan couldn't fall asleep at night.
He lay in bed, the smile fading from his face as he stared coldly at the ceiling.
Who was he? Where did he belong? Why was he on the side of the road?
Ethan kept trying to remember, but his mind was blank.
The silence of the room was maddening.
He turned his head to look at the living room. Yet Daisy on the sofa was already asleep.
She was wrapped in the blanket, with only her small face peeking out. Her face was pink, framed by brown hair, making her look even more delicate. But her brows were furrowed, and her pouty lips showed she was still annoyed even in her sleep.
As Ethan watched her, he found himself falling asleep as well.
The next morning, Daisy shook Ethan awake. "I'm going to work. I might not be back tonight. I made breakfast for you."
Ethan buried his head under the blanket, muttering, "Okay, thanks. I appreciate it."
Daisy, almost late for work, didn't bother to respond and left in a hurry.
She had just arrived at the magazine office when she saw Max entering the chief editor Sam Thompson's office. A few minutes later, Sam called her in.
Daisy composed herself before knocking on Sam's door.
Sam was a stern, old-fashioned man. His gaze was severe as he asked, "What happened that day?" Daisy's tears immediately started to flow.
"Mr. Thompson, I didn't mean to miss photographing Zara. I got into a car accident..."
The entire magazine office could hear Daisy's intermittent sobs!
Sam let her cry for a while before he said, "Enough! Stop crying! Are you hurt?"
Daisy finally stopped, touching her arm. "Just a minor bump, nothing serious."
Sam, with a headache, waved his hand. "Alright, you can go."
He paused before adding, "I heard there was a shootout at the mafia wedding between the Roberts family and the Carter family. The city's security is terrible. Be careful when you're out on assignment."
"Thank you, Mr. Thompson!" Daisy glanced at Max, who was standing by with a sour face. Sniffling, she left the office.
A second later, the entire office heard Sam scolding Max.
Nina gave Daisy a thumbs up. "Your acting's getting better and better."
Daisy rolled her eyes. "Max is such a tattletale! I was telling the truth. I really did hit someone..."
And now she was being extorted, acting like a servant for him. She had let him stay, and now he was lounging in her home, wearing her robe, and sleeping in her bed...
But even with her best friend, she couldn't say it all.
Because of her accident and pitiful sobs, Sam kindly gave her another half-day off.
That afternoon, Daisy went to a nearby supermarket and generously bought Ethan two sets of clothes, two sets of pajamas, and... ten pairs of ugly red underwear.
She expected to see Ethan's explosive reaction, but instead, he simply smiled lightly and said, "Could you cook? I'm hungry."
Daisy looked at him skeptically. No complaints?
