Unrequited Love

The following morning Mia was spaced out while the blender was going. Cassy stumbled out of her room and saw Mia looking out of it.

“Amelia its not even 6 am yet and you look like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.” Cassy’s tone held a hint of sarcasm.

“Did I wake you?” Mia asked as she finally noticed Cassy.

“Why are you spacing out so early in the morning?” Cassy asked.

“Just thinking .. would you like a smoothie?” Mia offered her a glass of the smoothie she was making.

“Sure why not? And what’s the deal with you and that pretty boy Jeremy Brooks?” Cassy asked taking a sip.

“Oh that brat is just a childhood friend. We practically grew up together but he moved away to pursue a career in music and acting.” Mia replied.

“I thought there was something there ..” Cassy said in a teasing tone.

“Not with Jeremy! Eeewwww! He’s like a brother to me nothing more. Does Rosa really like him?” Mia asked while pouring the smoothie for both of them.

“Rosa is the fangirling type. She’ been in love with Jeremy after her crush on my brother failed.” Cassy replied accepting a glass from Mia.

“Then I guess I’ll introduce them. Might help get Jeremy off my back." Mia replied with a wicked smirk on her face then added. "By the way why did her crush on your brother fail?"

"Oh me and Rosa met in middle school all the girls there liked my brother, heaven knows why?" Cassy rolled her eyes looking disgusted. "Anyways, one day me and Rosa found a black note book in my brother's room. Turned out to be some kind of diary. Jake had met a girl in hospital one day and had fallen in love with her. He was practically keeping himself for her, Rosa had an enormous crush on him after reading that. My brother remained loyal to this girl till his second year in high school never dating. I don't know what happened but he started dating then and his girlfriends didn't last a week and he'd move on to the next one. I guess he finally got over his first love who ever she was."

"Wow sounds deep. No wonder he's always walking around with that serious face. But he's only had one girlfriend since I've known him." Mia said recalling she'd only seen him with Zoey no one else.

"Now that you mention it you're right. Since the beginning of this semester Jake hadn't been with anyone until recently.. with that fake Zoey." Cassy said looking disgusted. "Could he really like her?"

"It looks that way." Mia replied softly her heart breaking silently. "Anyway I'll see what I can do about Rosa and Jeremy though advise her to stay away from him."

Cassy laughed hearing her trying to dump Jeremy of to Rosa who seemed smitten with him. They got ready to go attend their classes. When Mia got to class she groaned annoyed when she spotted Jeremy already sitting there with his infuriating smirk.

“Morning Mia I bought-“

“Save it Jeremy. I told you to keep your distance didn’t I? Do you want your fans to attack me?” Mia snapped at him.

“They won’t. I’ll explain it to everyone that we’re just friends. More like siblings!” Jeremy quickly reassured her placing a latte on her desk.

Mia took the latte and drank it not even sparing him a look and Jeremy sat next to her with a smirk on his face.

“Hello Jeremy ..” Zoey was standing in front of Mia and Jeremy’s desk blushing fiercely. She was dressed in a pink mini skirt and a baby pink tank top. Her light blonde hair tied in two loose pigtails. Mia smirked seeing her checking Jeremy out. "My name is Zoey-“

“I’m not signing autographs right now Zoey its time for class.” Jeremy said in a strict tone making Zoey feel a little embarrassed.

“Maybe later then?” She asked in a shy voice.

“Maybe.” Jeremy looked at Mia who was giggling next to him. “What’s funny?”

The lecturer came in before Mia could reply and class started ..

“Good morning …”

Mia’s mind was focused in Zoey who seemed smitten with Jeremy. For some reason this made her happy. If Zoey was this smitten with Jeremy then she wasn’t serious about Jake. If she hurts him then Mia was more than willing to step in and pick up the pieces. The lecture went on and Mia tried to concentrate casting casual glances at Zoey who kept stealing glances at Jeremy. Excitement was building up inside Mia. She was convinced that Zoey had a thing for Jeremy like most of the idiots in her class. Tsk! If only they knew .. she thought.

“My parents invited you and your dad to dinner at my place tonight. Are you game?” Jeremy asked after class.

“Dad’s out of town and I’m kinda busy tonight. Maybe this weekend?” Mia said glad she had a reason to brush Jeremy off. Last thing she wanted was to be seen dining at his house, the rumours were annoying her already! Why couldn't Jeremy just go back where ever he came from?

“Fine, I’ll tell my parents but this weekend you have to come okay?” He asked as his phone started ringing. He didn’t wait for Mia to answer he ran off waving at her.

“Amelia ..” Mia groaned when she heard the sickening voice calling her name.

“What?” she asked her tone laced with irritation as she turned around.

“Jeremy Brooks … Are you two?”

“No! He’s just friend. Now if you’ll excuse I have class to get to.” She strutted off leaving an annoyed Zoey behind.

Mia realised she didn’t like the other girl more as time went by. There was just something about Zoey that infuriated her despite the fact she was entangled with Jake. Classes went by well and before she knew it , it was lunch time. Mia made her way to the cafeteria when she happened to see a notice on notice board about the competition.

She scanned the QR code and saved the web page then made way to the cafeteria where Cassy and Rosa were already waiting for her.

“Your brother is hot but I like Jeremy more. He’s every girls dream.” Rosa said as Mia took a seat between them

“Count me out!” She made a gagging sound. “Who would dream about that annoying brat?”

“Come on Amelia. What’s there not to like about Jeremy? He’s-“

“You’ll make me loose my appetite Rosa please can we not do this right now? Lately you two are always discussing guys ..” Mia said looking at her with suspicious eyes.

“It’s Rosa..” Cassy started but Rosa cut her off.

“What’s up with the two of you anyways? He seems drawn to you whereas you ..” Mia’s glare stopped Cassy from saying more.

“Ok fine if you won’t tell us can you at least tell something about your secret crush. What’s he like? Does he go to our Uni? Give us something?” Cassy asked her ears twitching with curiosity. Mia hesitated a bit before replying.

“Yes he attends the same Uni as us but that’s all I’m gonna say don’t ask anymore.” She said and started eating.

“Do we know him?” Rosa asked taking fries from Mia’s plate.

“Let’s drop it. I’m not giving you any more info ..” Mia said giving the two a glare.

“Fine we’ll just have to investigate ourselves then, right Rosa? They must be clues ..” Cassy said winking at Rosa.

"OK Sherlock! Can we enjoy our lunch now?" Mia rolled her eyes.
