Today has been extra ordinarily boring. I don't know why, but it being a Friday seemed boring which was really wrong.
Friday is supposed to be 'the funday.' The day when we can say goodbye to school for a whole two days.
A whole two freaking days!!
"Urgh! I'm so bored." Mia grunts beside me.
"Are you sure today's Friday?" I ask her.
"I think I'm starting to doubt it too."
We have a free class so we are currently on the football pitch, sitting on some bleachers, sunbathing.
I know it's weird but we didn't have any other thing to do and sunbathing looked like a really good idea at the time.
"Hey Alex?" Mia calls me.
"Hmm?" I close my eyes to enjoy the heat better.
"I wanna ask a question, and I'd really want your sincere answer." She continues.
I smile. "One would think you were really serious right now."
"Alexis." She says and I suddenly open my eyes to see she was really serious.
I sit upright. "What is it?" She looks down.
"If I decide to date your brother, how'd you feel?" She asked.
Okay, of all the questions, I did not expect that.
"Well," I begin. "It would feel weird for sure. But I guess it'd be pretty okay I guess." I scratched my hair.
"So you are cool with it?" She looks unsure so I put my hands on hers.
"Hey. It's not my relationship, it's yours. I do not have a say in whoever you choose to date." She nods. "And besides," I continue. "You'd be good for my brother. He's a dumbass and you're the kind smack in the head he needs right now."
She laughs. "Really?" She looks relieved.
"Yeah." I smile.
She hugs me.
"And FYI, just know I'm not interfering if you two get in a fight." I say when she pulls away and she laughs.
"No problem."
"Why do you ask?"
"Well, I didn't want it to be a situation where I would eventually date your brother and you wouldn't be cool with it."
"Well I am."
I catch a movement by the corner of my eye, so I turn and I see Matt Harper walking towards a corner.
What's he up to?
"I'd be right back." I stand up but Mia holds my hand.
"You are really playing with fire Alex." She warns and I shrug.
"Maybe I like the heat." I give her a small smile, then I walk towards the corner where Matt Harper disappeared into and when I get there, I see him resting on the wall with one knee against the wall and he lights up a cigarette.
"What are you doing?" I ask him but he doesn't even flinch.
He ignores me and takes a strong puff from the cigarette before blowing it out.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" He asks me back.
"Why are you not in class?" I ask again.
"Same reason as to why you aren't." He still doesn't look at me.
Oh.
"Oh." I keep forgetting we are in the same class. "You know that's not good for your health." I state, pointing at the cigarette.
"So?" He asks.
"So, stop it."
"And why should I?" He asks again.
"You should stop taking it so you can live longer."
For me.
He finally looks at me.
"You can't tell me what to do." He stands properly, throws the cigar on the floor, steps it and walks past me.
Why does that sound familiar?
I suddenly turn to him.
"Did I do something wrong?"
He stops and turns.
"What now?"
"What did I do?" I ask again.
"Who said you did anything wrong?" He asks me back.
"I must have done something wrong for you to act cold towards me."
"When was I ever friendly or warm or nice to you?" He raises an eyebrow.
"The day you called me small." I said in a heartbeat.
It was true. After that day, I thought people just thought wrong about him and he seemed a little harsh but nice to me?
He looks up and grunts before he finally looks at me.
"Listen, Lexis just because-"
"Don't call me that." I interrupt him and he frowns.
"Call you what?"
"Don't call me Lexis." I fold my arms together.
"Isn't it your name?"
"Yeah but don't." His frown changes to confusion.
"Why?" He doesn't let me talk before he continues. "I call you small, you tell me you don't like it. I call you by your name, you said I shouldn't call you that either. What exactly do you want me to call you?"
"Smallie." I say immediately and I see the corner of his lips curl up a little.
He puts his hands in his pockets. "You said you didn't like that name." He states.
"Well, I changed my mind."
He takes a step towards me. Then another, and another, and another, till he's right in front of me.
"I wonder what's going on in that pretty mind of yours." He bends to my level and smiles. "Smallie."
I swear my heart does a little flip.
He stands up straight and turns to walk away.
I watched him go until I see him no more.
As I was walking back to meet Mia, I couldn't help but skip in my steps.
I reach her side and she looks up from my phone.
"Why are you all smiley?"
I didn't realize I was smiling.
I shrug "Nothing."
She frowns.
"Did something happen between you and Harper?" She asks again.
"Nothing happened between us, but something did happen to me."
"Which is?" She sets her phone down beside her.
"I don't know actually." I sit beside her. "I don't know what happened to me, but I do know something happened and I'm kind of glad it did." I smile again but Mia just shakes her head.
"That's it. I'm never going to understand you."
I chuckle. "I don't even understand me."
The bell rings so we both stand up and we walk back into the building to prepare for our next class.
