CHAPTER 1

As I cried, "Daddy, please, just let me go! It's my birthday and everyone's going!" while clutching my straight A report card in his study, I loved my father, but he never offered me any freedom or space to breathe. Either of those actions is inappropriate for a future Luna. How dull it is, oh! Ack, ack, ack! I stomped my foot and pouted, collapsing into the plush recliner opposite from his desk as he replied, "I don't know princess, I heard there's going to be some wolves from our rival pack there." He peered over the lip of his glasses. He had already seen my report card, which included the perfect marks I had promised him when we first discussed the party last month. "That's not even fair! Jason's going and he's gonna be beta!" I said. It worried me that my father would never let me to do things that my one and only cousin, Jason, could do. My rules had never been as strict as Jason's, even if his father was the current Beta and my dad's brother. "I rolled my eyes, but my father explained that future Lunas should be role models princesses, not followers. Being a pack leader takes a lot of work." He's back! With her beautiful features, my mother said, "Oh, let the girl go, Adam. It's her 16th birthday!" while laughing. I continued, giving him my recognizable puppy dog looks, and I even sighed a little to make him feel a little less alone. "Yeah daddy, it's my birthday! Plus, even mommy thinks I should go!" I immediately interrupted him and gave him a bear embrace. "Okay, okay. But Addy, watch out. You're sixteen now, and if I find out you were drinking or anything else," he said. I smiled and rushed to my room upstairs before he could decide otherwise. When I put on a black vest and black tank top with thin pants, I was relieved to finally have some independence! "I won't embarrass you daddy, I promise!" It took sixteen years, of course, but freedom at last! As I turned to go, I heard my dad ask, "Addy?" from my room. I smiled and said, "Hi Daddy, is something wrong?" but he shook his head and handed me a set of car keys. "Your mother says it's best if you drive yourself since you got your license this morning." I could tell it was hurting for him to see me grow up, so I took the keys from my dad and hugged him tightly. I smiled, pulled back, and headed down the steps. My mother yelled at me as I got closer to the door that my curfew was at midnight. I texted my best friend Cassidy that my dad had given me permission to leave, and then I got into his black Mercedes and started driving. "- As soon as I pulled up to the party, Jason took me into an embrace and I grimaced because he smelled so bad. Everything! He yanked back, knowing that my dad would murder me if I came home smelling like a keg. I shot him a suspicious glance. Cassidy hurried up to me, grinning, and hugged me "Ada! You succeeded!" Yes, I'm still in shock that my father agreed! Cassidy shook her head and smiled before leading me inside. "I'm more shocked he didn't follow me here, but just in case I drove around the block a few times," I said. She said, "You have to dance with me, Ada?," with such adorable eyes that it was difficult not to smile. You're celebrating your birthday!I chuckled and let my best friend—well, my one and only friend—pull me onto the dance floor. I know you say you're not much of a dancer, but please, please, please. Cassidy was unlike anybody else in the world at what she did, having spent years refining them. "Come on, birthday girl, shake it like you wanna break it!" she exclaimed. Then I started laughing and swaying my hips. Suddenly, I smelled something, and it was a strong scent. I was staring out the window as the slowly leaking sunlight made my head spin. His aroma filled the room like pollution. I jerked up, clutching the sheets tightly as I looked around and realized I was alone in a strange room. Memories of last night filled my head. Suddenly, I felt sick to my stomach, so I put my hands gingerly up to my throat and rubbed. I realized I was missing my phone when I looked in my rear pockets. I had to call my parents to let them know I was okay since I started to get really nervous. If my father found out what had happened the previous night, he would go all out. My inner wolf barked, "Tianna, find our mate!"loudly. I was saddened by the thought that he had left so suddenly, but my sadness was soon replaced by a surge of anger at the realization that he had neglected to even say good morning. I snarled at her; there's no time for that, did you already forget what happened last night? I used to hate talking to my inner wolf since it made me feel crazy even when no one could hear me. He sexually assaulted us! I'm not going to chase after him. "As soon as the bedroom door opened, I jumped to my hands and knees, grabbing my phone from under the bed and getting ready to fight the intruder. "Mr. Foxx, Ada is doing fine. She stayed over at my house because she was simply too exhausted to drive home. I hope that's alright."Smiling, Cassidy asked as she walked into the room and closed the door. "She's heading home, so she'll definitely make it in time for breakfast." Goodbye!" Placing my phone in my back pocket, I asked, "My dad called you? Hold on... Are you still present here?Never mind. How would I ever get dressed again if I'd fallen asleep completely? "Yeah, he said he'd been trying to reach you all night but you never answered," Cassidy chuckled. He was so scared I thought he'd phone the werewolf protection group or something! What happened—did you nod off again here or—?The previous occupant would have a lot of cleaning to do after we went outside, stepping over trash almost every two feet! "I took her hand and we went outside! As I pressed the keys to unlock my father's automobile, I swallowed back tears and whispered, "I found my mate Cass, but before you get all thrilled over it... He's not what I expected. He's a terrible guy, and he took advantage of me last night." With disbelief and excitement in her eyes, Cassidy whispered, "Took advantage... you had s*x!?" I let out the last of my cries, tears streaming down my face, "No... Yes... Cassidy it's not what you think he-he... he r*p*d me." Cassidy pushed me aside as I got into the car, saying, "What the?... Ada, are you okay?" I swiftly pulled away, nodding and let the tears fall freely down my face. "I just need some time to think okay? I'll, um, i'll call you soon. Promise." I wanted nothing more from life than to return and inform my dad that I didn't have to attend the party. I yearned to return to my childhood, when I was seven years old, and my parents' Bratz lunchbox was my bedtime snack after a tiring day of playing outside. The cereal box was on top of the fridge, out of reach, and I wanted to go back to the days I spent with Cassidy, catching fireflies. To the times when my dad used to come in my room at night to look for monsters. I only wish I had known that he was the monster that his father had never discovered before I entered that f*ck*ng room with him. I was reminded by my inner wolf that "a future Alpha shouldn't be crying like this." As I pulled into the driveway, I sighed at her and said, "You're right, you're right. Daddy can't see me like this." I reached for a shirt corner, wiped my face, got out of the car, and put on my biggest triumphant smile. I sat in the bathtub and let the bubbles envelop me, allowing my body to slowly submerge, head and all, under the hot water. Three weeks had passed since Eric had rejected me, so I held my breath and counted slowly. I tried not to think about it, but it was all I could think about, and it was making me feel horrible. These days, all I seem to do is snap at people and shut myself in my room. And to top it all off, Cassidy claims that I've been throwing up because of my own self-consciousness. I was just someone Eric felt he could use that night and throw away in the morning; it's not like we had been dating for very long. Which hurt because I knew I was just a tampon for him, just as he did. As soon as I heard the word "tampon" again, my head sprang out of the water. When had I last had a period? I tried counting on my fingers, but the bubbles distracted me and I was unable to recall. I got out of the tub and covered myself with a towel before going into my bedroom to see that I had been delayed by two weeks. Maybe Cassidy could get me a pregnancy test, so I hastily put on my pajamas and grabbed my phone. I couldn't get through to her, just to be sure. I set my phone down on the nightstand, and my finger just kind of danced a little.
