There was quietness in the camp, but it didn't feel right. It was heavy, like if the world were holding its breath, and it wasn't serene.
Aria was playing with Woof with her little hands while she sat on my lap. She wasn't laughing as she usually does. The lingering uneasiness was palpable even to her.
With his back to us, Nathaniel stood close to the fire. He had a low head and rigid shoulders. Kian's hands were balled into fists and his jaw was tight as he paced.
With a stern voice, Kian said, "Nathaniel."
Nathaniel didn't look back. He remained motionless, gazing at the fire.
