The thought of Hayden was never pleasant to me. It made my skin crawl to think of him. He was the reason my pack was gone and the cause of my suffering. However, the rumors I had heard about him always made me wonder. Why had he become such a monster?
Even though Kael had previously told me that he detested his brother, there was something about their relationship that felt indestructible. I learned from a scout that day that Kael had approached Hayden as Reika was working on the message for the locket. I couldn't stop thinking about what the scout had told me.
There was a hint of edge in Kael's calm voice. "Why, Hayden? Why do you act this way?
At first, Hayden didn't respond. He didn't. Something unpleasant always preceded his quiet.
