A very very long time ago, when darkness ruled the length and breath of the earth. People hid scared, here and there from the various mosters.
Sometimes they offered gifts to them, in hope that they might leave them alone. But these monsters were gluttonous anomalies of nature that would not be pleased by these mere gestures.
They fed on fear and hopelessness. Vulnerability was their muse. They started demanding sacrifices. Ones with great consequences.
The people of the old did cater to their needs. Year after year, virgins were sent to their dens as sacrificials.
What happened to them after that nobody knew. But that was the end of their mortal existence.
Untill one such girl was chosen amogsts the village maids. It was quite normal for everybody and it caused nobody much pain.
