Marcus returned to total bedlam at the hall. Men from the closest farms were loading muskets and saddling horses while Moira and Christine tended to a fatally injured Erica. He and his men had found nothing of O’Flagnery’s men, deciding it was a false alarm and return to the hall. “What happened?” he demanded, dismounting his horse before pushing his way through the bedlam to the two women kneeling over the third. “O’Flagnery,” Moira cried, looking up at him, her face gaunt. “He came while you were gone.
