Chapter 32 Shauna A knock at the door to their room woke her with a jolt, her heart pounding as she rolled to her feet, the bedsprings screeching in protest. A small flap she hadn’t noticed at the bottom of the door was pulled back and in slid a tray of food. She waited, watching through the small window as the shadows danced as the guard backed away from the door. She moved to the door, expecting the usual gruel she had gotten when she had been held in Damian’s camp. Something like a hunk of bread or hard cheese and dried meat. Something easy to eat that didn’t require a fork or a knife. She lifted the lid and froze. “Philippe, food is here,” she said, staring down at the food—two large bowls of what looked like a thick beef stew, as well as fresh bread, a bottle of liquid, and two cups.
